Excerpt:

I ran so fast I felt one with the wind. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.  Sooner or later my mother would track me down but until then I’ll enjoy myself. As I entered the arcade I heard my name.

“Yo, Eden.”

“Eden! You escaped.”

I smiled as I saw my friends approach. “Yeah I escaped the clutches of the evil demon.”

“You shouldn’t joke about that stuff, it could be real,” said Zoe innocently. Zoe was my best friend and still an innocent. Her boyfriend Mike thought he understood all. Even though they were Nephilim too, I couldn’t let them learn who my father was.

“It is real, Zo. If there are angels, there are demons. You can’t have one without the other.”

“Who says?” I defended as I retrieve the air hockey puck out of the slot and place it on the table. It begins sliding around in a small circle, waiting for me to hit it.

“Says I.” Mike took the position opposite me and waited. I narrowed my eyes and glared at him. Zoe always says I do this thing with my eyes that could make every boy swoon, but I don’t believe it. How could one person’s eyes make someone swoon? As I wacked the air hockey puck, Mike seemed distracted by something, so the puck sailed straight down into my goal at his end. The electronic voice announced the score to be one nil and that seemed to break his reverie.

“Mike, what happened? You were totally out of it.” Zoe placed a hand on his bicep.

“No, I wasn’t.”

“Yes, you were. You totally let Eden win.”

“It was just a lucky shot,” I said in defence. I couldn’t let them think that somehow I had something to do with Mike’s off-with-the-faeries moment. Did I? It couldn’t be possible. I didn’t just cause Mike to space out and act as if he and I were the only ones left on earth? Did I?

“That never happens, baby.”

“Okay, maybe this turn will be better.” Mike retrieved the puck out of the slot on his side and placed it on the table, ready to hit. I stood ready, but this time I was the distracted one. I couldn’t get the feeling out of my head that I had revealed one of my powers to him. My mother said to never do that. But was it even one of my traits? The air hockey puck sailed straight under me and landed in his goal. One- all.

“Oh yeah!” Mike hooted, but I didn’t feel like partying anymore. I walked away from the table.

“Oh, what’s the matter, Eden, afraid of being beat?”

“No, I just don’t feel like playing anymore.”

“Oh, come on! We were right in the middle of a game!”

I walked away ignoring their pleas as the allure of the hoop game called me over. I had just pushed a token in the slot and picked up a ball, when I heard my name. But it wasn’t from Mike or Zoe.

“So this is where you spend your runaway hours?” I glanced over my shoulder and saw the creep standing behind me.

“Who are you and what do you want?”

“Don’t you see the family resemblance?” he smirked.

I turned to take a good look at him, intrigued. The guy had to be about my mother’s age, maybe a little older and had the same grey- blue eyes my mother has.

“Uncle Adam?”

“In the flesh. Now lets get out of here.”

I chuckled as I turned back around and threw a ball at the highest scoring hoop. It went in. “I am not going anywhere with you.”

Adam clapped. “Good shot. But its not surprising, seeing whose blood you carry in your veins.”

“Do you mean yours and Mum’s, or…”

“Lakyn’s?” He finished for her. “Either way, you have so many abilities you are not even aware of, Eden. And some of them are quite dangerous.”

“How do you know this?”

“I was there from the moment you were born. Trust me, I know.”

I tossed another ball in, this time in a lower scoring hoop and it went in as well. “I’m still not going with you.” As I picked up a third ball and pushed it towards the hoops, it froze mid- air. I gasped and looked back at my uncle. He shrugged.

“Game over.”

As he walked away, the ball remained frozen.

“Wait, how did you do that?” I asked, glancing back and forth from the ball to him.

“If you come with me, I’ll tell you.”

“My mother sent you, didn’t she?”

“She might have.”

“So what you just did, can I do that?”

“Everyone’s traits are different, but probably. If you come with me, you can find out more.”

“I can’t just leave my friends.”

“Yes, you can. You can always make new friends.”

I stopped walking and looked at my friends playing the Daytona. Mike was showing Zoe how to drive, which was really cute. And then I looked at my uncle, waiting patiently outside the mouth of the arcade by a black town car. If I stayed, I would never know what my traits would be, I would never learn how to use them. But I would be a normal teenager, going to school and hanging out at the arcade with her friends. If I went with my uncle, I would no longer be normal. I wanted both lives. But the idea of having amazing powers intrigued me most. In the end I chose door two. Looking back I regretted leaving my friends. But I knew they would never understand. I knew deep down that I was made for a higher purpose.

Death & Maria…

I stood staring through the glass partition when I saw that ginger Empath look up and storm in my direction.  I rolled my eyes and sighed.  Why did I always have to receive abuse from women?  Civilisations had bowed down to me in fear and now I couldn’t even scare a stupid Empath!

“What the hell do you think you’re doin?”  She was stood in my way with her hand on her hips and it was taking all of my self-control not to move her out of the way.  Jess was obviously feeling elated because her wings were fully outstretched,

“I’M GOING TO SEE MY DAUGHTER, NOT THAT IT’S ANY OF YOUR BUSINESS!” I frowned,

“And you can cut that out right now!”  And now the silly woman was pouting and tapping her foot.  This will not do at all!

“DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM YOU SILLY CREATURE?” I bellowed.  That should have scared her but I watched in amazement when she looped her arm in mine and turned us around.  I found myself looking over my shoulder at Jess kissing her wolf while I was being manhandled by a woman,

“Yadda, yadda, yadda, I know exactly who you are and if you call me a stupid ginger Empath once more I’m slapping your face.  Oh and you can pack that stupid voice in as well.  It doesn’t work on me when Jess does it and it sure as hell won’t work coming from Death, so you can just stop it!”

“HOW DARE YOU SPEAK…”

“Seriously!  When was the last time you spoke normal?  I’m betting you didn’t speak to Eve like that, in fact I bet you were all hearts and flowers before you knocked her up?” she interrupted.  If she wasn’t careful I would judge her right here.  How dare she speak to me in this manner!

“HOW…”  Heavens above, she was interrupting me again!  She stopped and stood in front of me placing her hand on my arm,

“Look cut the crap!  I can feel how worried you are for Jess so be her father for once and not a ‘know it all’ celestial being.  Her voice scares the shit out of her and I’m guessing you had a hand in saving her again so please try and be normal for her.”

“LOOK…” I coughed.  I couldn’t believe a stupid ginger Empath was making me change my voice but here I was doing just that, “…she is my daughter and I couldn’t let her die so I helped her along a little.  Not that it’s any of your business might I add!” I sighed,

“The name is Maria by the way, NOT the stupid ginger Empath!  Jess is ok but she will need time to come to terms with the fact you’re here.  When Eve died it destroyed her and she’s felt alone ever since.  Deep down she doesn’t even hate you, she regrets not knowing you and so barging in there isn’t going to do you any good.  I have no idea what you’re doing here because Jess isn’t ready and you have incredibly shit timing!” she pouted,

“I am here to protect my daughter from the approaching darkness and if I go back now Evelyn will have my balls!”  I seemed to have an uncontrollable urge to talk to this woman and it was annoying.

“Excuse me, Evelyn?” she questioned looking puzzled.  Of course, she wouldn’t know Evelyn was in the mists with me,

“Yes Evelyn, my wife and Jess’ mother.  She would not be pleased if I simply ran back home without trying to help our daughter!” I scowled,

“Eve is with you?” she said astonished,

“Yes.  Has anyone told you that you’re nosey for a crossbreed?” I said raising an eyebrow,

“But she died?”

“Yes indeed she did!”  Maria was starting to try my patience,

“And you didn’t judge her?”  Her voice was sounding an octave higher probably from the shock,

“It was not my place to!”

“Because she was your wife?”

“ENOUGH WITH THE QUESTIONS!  EVELYN IS NOT YOUR CONCERN AND NEITHER IS JESS.  IF YOU DO NOT STEP OUT OF MY WAY I WILL SMITE YOU!” I bellowed shacking the light fittings.  I stood in absolute horror when the stupid ginger Empath started laughing,

“Oh…sorry…wait…can’t breathe…oh God…smite!” she snorted and I raised an eyebrow.  It was no wonder Bunny and Jess liked this woman because she was insane,

“Will you stop laughing?”  Even I was starting to smile,

“I swear if you call me a stupid ginger Empath once more…I mean it!  You know Eve was my friend and it was my job to protect her.  I’m now friends with Jess and if you think I’m gonna let you stroll in there and upset her after she’s been asleep for six weeks you really have another thing coming!  You may be a scary Archangel but you’re also a father and it’s about time you stepped up to your responsibilities.  I promise you that once she is a little more stable I will take great pleasure in introducing you but for now just let her have a little time with the man she loves, please.”

Shannyn is a former English teacher, who now works as a part-time editor while raising her three kids.

Even though she wrote from high school through college (mostly poetry), she’d never considered a career as an author. Writing fell by the wayside as she focused her energy on creating lesson plans and new and fabulous ways to torment her teen students. One group in particular dubbed her “The Torture Master,” a title she carried into motherhood.

After the birth of baby number two, Shannyn resigned from teaching and fell in love with reading romance novels. She read so many books so quickly that her husband teased, “If you’re going to read so many damn books, why don’t you just write one?”

So she did.

That first book is safely buried on her hard drive, but the process set Shannyn on the path to where she is today—agented with a debut ebook coming out with Kensington in late 2012.

She is recovering from her Diet Coke addiction, fears putting her foot in her mouth on social media, and has a renewed appreciation for the bad girls of the world.

Excerpt

Because I stayed up late trying to finish up a batch, I ended up forgetting to set the alarm. The only reason I wake up is because Dog is running something fierce in his dreams again, maybe looking to catch uncatchable tennis balls. The final blow comes when he kicks me directly in the kidney, making my leg jerk up so that I almost kick him in the face.

“You’re lucky I love you, you furry son-of-a-bitch.”

He gives me a look that tells me to go screw myself and yawns in my face.

“Jerk.”

It’s past ten and I don’t want to hear crap about missing more classes, so I don’t bother to do anything except brush my teeth and throw on some semi-clean clothes. My skin is probably combustible by this point anyway, so showering won’t make any difference. Then again, maybe I would get lucky and catch fire at some point throughout the day.

At least that would lighten things up.

Hardy har har. Ain’t I clever?

No surprise. The Stooges are already waiting for me in the parking lot when I get to school. Twitching more than usual, Sam Anderson looks like he’s about to pick out the last of his hairs from his head. I guess that’s why he cut it so short to begin with. And I swear if Ryan Fuller’s face breaks out anymore, FEMA will have to declare him a natural disaster area. I can see the signs and yellow caution tape now. Warning: Standing too close to this junkie may cause you to go blind from his ugliness.

And that’s the thing about meth; it makes you ugly, but not just on the outside. We all end up ugly on the outside eventually (don’t get me started about western standards of beauty) but crank makes you ugly on the inside, like evil stepsister ugly. So ugly that I almost forget when we all used to be friends; Sam, Ryan, Luke, and me, before Mom left and Frank started using, and all that other shit. Maybe meth makes it easier to forget. I don’t know.

I must have become too weird for them to hang out with. At least until I had something else to offer them, something that helps Sam and Ryan make weight for wrestling and help Luke make the money for the car he wanted. Then suddenly I’m their best friend again.

Poof!

Presto!

Alakazam!

Even that didn’t last long, because now their eyes bug, and they itch, and twitch. They bug, itch, twitch and they sell. They sell for me. I know it isn’t smart to shit where you eat, but I keep everything in-check by keeping them in-check. I mean, I don’t even have to pay them; they work for product, for Christ’s sake.

I make them their own batch, battered down and diluted so I get the most use out of them for my buck—so to speak. If anything ever did happen, if they ever did turn me in to save their own asses, all anybody would see is a few strung out losers with a story. It would be my word against theirs. And on paper I’m an honor roll student who has never bothered anyone.

Then there are other ways of getting rid of evidence should I ever need it, so I’m not too worried about The Stooge aspect of business.

I know instantly when I see them that they must be hurting. In a way it’s funny, these guys have no concept of self-control, and they always end up bingeing on what I bring them. Half the time, they want even more than what our original arrangement dedicated and I have to remind them that they’ll have to pay me on top of working for me.

“McKay! McKay!” Before I can even get out of my truck, Luke is all over me, practically jumping on the windshield like Dog used to do when he was younger. But when I give him the look, he simmers down a bit and backs off. I thinking figure people are watching us from the windows. I know they aren’t, but I still can’t help but think it.

“Dude, how ya been?”

I look around, and because the school day is half-over and the parking lot is deserted, but I don’t want to risk a security guard finding us out here, I hold them off a little longer.

“I’m not giving you anything.”

“Dude, we’re starting to feel the pain here.”

As if I cared.

Then Anderson makes that whiny sound in the back of his throat and Ryan is scratching at the sores that have formed on his arms over the last few weeks and I am thinking: college, college, college. Out, out, out.

So I dangle a possibility in front of them.

A high profile murder of a Wall Street executive in Westchester pits three people against the criminal underbelly of Manhattan nightlife. The Cover of Darkness is a gritty noir saga that untangles a web of deceit in the course of tracking down a brutal murderer.

MEDIA KIT Cover of Darkness_Ebook

David first opened the door to a closet on the left, searching it with the gun muzzle, before approaching the door at the end of the hall and kicking it open. An angry, naked man stood on the other side, his anger changing to fear in seconds once he beheld the gun pointing in his direction.

“Get back into bed,” David ordered.

The pale-bodied man responded as he staggered backward. The foot of the bed struck the back of his knees, sending him seated on the mattress. The woman on the bed had by this time covered herself with the sheets, and curled her legs up.

While Kevin stood nervously in the doorway, David searched the room and the closets, the muzzle of the shotgun again serving as a probe, but found no one.

“What the…?” Chase asked David.

After searching through the room, David tossed the shotgun to Kevin.

Suddenly, Chase went white-hot heat, crawling backward into the arms of his woman in sheer panic screaming, “What do you want?!

“I want information,” David demanded, going to the foot of the bed, standing before them with Kevin directly behind him. “I want to know who whacked Osterman.”

How am I to know?!” Chase shouted back. His hair was a wild tangle, his eyes wide as saucers with fright.

“Don’t yell at me,” David said calmly. “I want answers. I’m not interested in killing you.”

“You bust into my crib and start throwing guns around. You’re crazy, man, what do you think I’m thinking?”

“You were moving dope for Osterman,” David persisted, ignoring Chase’s remarks.

Osterman! He jerked me.”

“With the Colombians.”

“Damn right.”

“And you didn’t like that.”

No, I didn’t.”

“So, you had one of your soul brothers do him in.”

“Oh hell, no. My people don’t kill. We don’t mess with weapons like you do.”

“And the reason for that?”

“More jail time . . . What are you? A cop?”

“Don’t worry about what I am,” David growled back. “You are moving weight. I want to know what happened after Osterman jerked you.”

“He jerked me. That’s all.”

“That’s all? You didn’t go to the Colombians? Liar!”

“Yes, yes, I did that!” Chase corrected. “I went to the Colombians as soon as I knew he jerked me. I begged them to give me another chance. They said they would, if I replaced their one hundred kilos. One hundred kilos! How do I do that?”

“Put bullets into Osterman for revenge.”

“How is that going to get me my one hundred kilos?”

“Let me explain it to you, genius. The Colombians trust Osterman enough to give him a heavy shipment. You find it, whack him, and take his shipment back to the Colombians. Paid in full.”

Chase thought that over for a second or two. “But that’s not what happened.”

“Convince me otherwise.”

The word “Freeze!” were suddenly heard from the doorway. David frowned as he glanced over his shoulder to see a scruffy looking black male, armed with his own shotgun.

Gregory Delaurentis spent his adult life roaming from job to job, working for Lockheed in California, various law firms in New York, and financial firms on Wall Street. Throughout this period of time, he was writing—unceasingly—finally producing a large body of work, albeit unrecognized and unpublished . . . until now. Cover of Darkness is the first in a series of upcoming books that include Edge of Darkness, Pale of Darkness and Cries of Darkness. These novels follow the lives of three individuals who do battle bringing criminals to justice, while they struggle to understand the complex relationships that exist among themselves. This intriguing trio has absorbed the attention of Mr. Delaurentis for the past year and a half, so much so he decided to self-publish their stories to bring them to a wider audience. Becoming Invisible (The Alaskan Heart Saga) by Tiffany Carmouche’

Cover

Becoming Invisible is the third book The Alaskan Heart Saga, a Contemporary New Adult Series about finding unexpected love and a woman’s fight for survival.

Passion. ..Obsession. ..Love…Loss.

When fire consumes the Carlisle’s home and an obsessed serial killer continues to hunt Nicole and her family, Dylan and Bradley realize the only way to keep them alive is to help them become… invisible.

https://www.facebook.com/events/394795043973368/ release party

Tiffany Carmouche’ has mastered the art of the suspenseful thriller! Had my husband and German Shepherd not been sitting here as I read the last of Becoming Invisible tonight, I never would have been able to finish it!

The rich blend of love and romance combined with “the fear of breathing” tension had me captivated from the first words. Becoming Invisible feels the culmination of The Alaskan Hearth Saga as I convinced myself that I finally know how this is really going to end midway through this book. Then I get pulled up short by another brilliant cliff-hanger that leaves me literally screaming “You have got to be kidding” when I realize this is the last page my beloved Kindle will be feeding to me.

Tiffany’s characters are so compelling, so real life that I was breathing when they breathed, loving when they loved, crying when they cried and bleeding when they bled.

I will be counting down the days, the weeks or the months until Tiffany Carmouche’ releases the next morsel of The Alaskan Heart Saga.

Getting to know author Tiffany Carmouche ~

Which six words would you use to describe yourself?

Sassy, persistent, dreamer, romantic, spontaneous, too trusting (okay that is seven opps)

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Me? I’m a single mother… a survivor… a dreamer… a hopeless romantic… and an adventurer…

Best Selling Author Tiffany Carmouche has been given the title, The Queen of The Cliffhanger and Best Unknown Author You Need to Discover. When Tiffany Carmouché is not writing suspenseful romance novels, you can find her sculpting, traveling, teaching, singing, dancing, escaping in music or enjoying her family.

From skydiving in Alaska to scuba diving in Hawaii, Carmouché has traveled the world seeking adventure and it is apparent in the books she writes. Her adventures include riding camels in Africa, swimming under the stars in Puerto Rico, dancing salsa in Ecuador, and walking the cobblestone roads of Assisi, Italy. She has also found fulfillment working with the disabled and orphans in Argentina and Mexico. Her most cherished moments, however, have been watching her two beautiful daughters grow and strive to accomplish their own dreams.

Despite all of these amazing experiences, she has survived many struggles. There was a time she felt defeated, but now she is recommitted to savoring experiences both in the novels she writes and in the life she lives each day. Her secret hope is that anyone who is struggling will realize there is a light at the end of the tunnel and no matter how hard the fight, no matter how many times they have been knocked down, it is always worth staggering up to their feet and learning to breathe again. Fool’s Game by Heather Huffman

VBT_FoolsGame_Banner

At the request of the U.S. Government, Caitlyn O’Rourke faked her death years ago, only to be reborn as the Cat—a deadly black-ops agent tasked with working for the shadowy organization Chameleon and doing the jobs that can’t be done in the light of day. Now, on the verge of taking down a notorious drug lord and rescuing a captured Chameleon agent, Cat is targeted for assassination…from within. But who’s making the call, and why?

As she attempts to uncover answers and stay alive, Cat finds herself working alongside Cody Kingsley, the mysterious senator who broke her heart and betrayed her long ago. Along with an inner circle of fellow agents, Cat and Cody must untangle the web of lies that surrounds them before it’s too late.

From the sultry streets of New Orleans to a secluded plantation in Ecuador to Washington, DC, Cat must elude an agent hell-bent on her destruction while figuring out how high up the ladder the conspiracy reaches. At the same time, she must work through her tumultuous and conflicting emotions where both Cody and fellow agent Galloway—who may or may not have her best interests at heart—are concerned.

A thrill ride of emotions, suspense, and action, Fool’s Game intertwines matters of the heart and survival …and the only thing certain is that Cat will never be the same.

Cover_Fools GameTheir bodies melded perfectly and they stepped as one into a waltz. Cat tilted her head to look up into Cody’s eyes, completely enraptured as he twirled her around the immense floor. There was something terribly romantic and sexy about being all dressed up and dancing like you knew how.

From across the room, the president tried to concentrate on his conversation, but his mind and his eyes kept drifting toward Cody and the woman in his arms. There was something eerily familiar about her. He’d nearly passed out from shock when Cody had entered the room, bold as can be, an hour earlier. He honestly hadn’t thought Kingsley would show up. It was gutsy, the president had to grudgingly admit. But what worried him more was Cody’s date. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he somehow knew her.

As they sat down to dinner, his eyes were glued to the strange woman. He knew she wasn’t someone he should know. Her coffee brown hair was swept up elegantly, though a few tendrils escaped to trail down her back and over her shoulders. Her brown eyes were lively as they stayed locked on Cody’s face. This woman was deeply in love; that much was certain. Every woman was deeply in love with Cody, the president reminded himself. But it was more than infatuation that he read on her face as the woman hung on Cody’s every word. She wore the look of a woman who would lay down her life for a man—that man.

In his mind’s eye he could see a cougar moving stealthily across the room. He shook his head and looked down at his drink, contemplating switching to water. He looked up again. The woman’s eyes met his and he again saw a cougar watching him, panting in anticipation of the kill.

In Love by Design, The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod by Tracy Ellen

A date with fate

tracy ellenMeet Tracy Ellen…

When I was eleven, I got about a hundred bucks in cash between my birthday and Christmas presents. This was BIG money back then. I spent every red cent of it on five pair of darling shoes and a couple of heaving bosom / manly muscle romance novels. For all of my life, I’ve always had a thing for shoes that make me say “Oh yum”, and a thing for reading books with plots centered on dangerously smart men and sassy, intelligent women. It’s not an exaggeration to say I’ve avidly read everything I could get my hands on to find these jewels.

One day this past year or so, I realized that I spend more money on books now than I do on shoes. I was stunned. Should I be ashamed of this fact or proud? Then an even stranger thing happened. It was like a switch turned off/on inside me. All of a sudden instead of wanting to read about romance, I wanted to write my own stories about the building sexual attraction between a confident woman and a mysterious man.

So began my budding writing career. Then I made another happy discovery; I absolutely love writing! Since then, I’ve become a writing fiend. My self-published books include A Date with Fate and Courted by Karma in The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod series. I’m releasing the third book in this series, In Love by Design, in September 2013.

For those of you who may want to know some pertinent facts: Don’t worry–I still adore yummy shoes and always will, even when I have one foot in the grave. Also, I was born in Indiana, the third out of five hellions. (My mother wanted to go to work every day.) I’ve always lived in the Midwest, except for six steamy months in Florida when I was nineteen. Currently, I reside in the suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota with my family. The college town of Northfield featured in Anabel’s Adventures is just down the road a jaunt.

I love, love, love connecting with readers. Reviews, comments, posts, and emails are always welcome. Follow my blog (although, I’m sorry to say it’s boring because I’d rather write books than write posts in my blog) or like me on Facebook to be aware of events, giveaways, new books I’m publishing, or a rare posting of something that strikes my funny bone. (Hmm, for a woman who loves to connect, I’m actually quite unsociable in the social media forum…)

The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod

(Volume III)

By Tracy Ellen

Cover Art by Samantha Prudhon Falkowski

front-coverart-book3

In Love by Design welcomes you back to Northfield, Minnesota and the life of Anabel Axelrod.

Its official–the sexy, blonde bookstore owner with a sassy attitude, a brain that never stops, and a reluctant penchant for helping her family and friends out of trouble has fallen madly in love.

Anabel doesn’t get to prove what a fabulous girlfriend she’ll make for more than eight hours before Luke disappears out of town. Instead of getting to enjoy being a girl passionately in love, Anabel’s shiny new feelings and trust in her boyfriend are immediately being tested.

Who is the darkly powerful and charismatic Luke Drake? What are his secrets? Does he really love Anabel, or has he been manipulating her to further an intricate plan of cold revenge in the making for over twenty years?

This third book in the series finds the confident Anabel desperately needing her sense of humor and all her understanding of human nature to deal with life. But Anabel soon learns the hard way she has even bigger issues to worry about than family problems and an incredibly hot, but very tricky boyfriend.

She’s made some bad enemies recently and someone wants her dead. After the first attempt on her life, Anabel and Luke team up to solve this mystery, but Anabel is beginning to wonder if she can trust her Dark Prince. Or Is this one fairy tale where love does not conquer all?

*ASHLEY ROBERTSON—2013 NATIONAL INDIE EXCELLENCE AWARDS FINALIST*

Death: a word Mia Baron was all too familiar with since the murder of her parents when she was a young girl. Her drive for vengeance was the reason she became a Death Dealer—a soul guide through the spirit realm—signing her life away in her own blood. Pain forged a concrete wall around her heart and no one or nothing would ever penetrate it…until she got what she desired most—revenge.

Deacon Gage craves justice for his own horrific tragedy that forced him into the same life Mia chose, with the same promise of vengeance dangling just out of reach. His expert training makes him an Elite—one of the few Death Dealers to ever achieve such a status—and no one can shift his focus from the blood he seeks.

But when the two are partnered for yet another job and a heart-shattering case rips open Mia’s heart, Deacon realizes he’s the only one who can save her…at a price that might be too much to pay: opening his heart to her. The clock is ticking and her life hangs on the balance of whether he can truly let go or will hold onto his desire for blood.

eBook Cover

5.0 out of 5 stars Death Dealer July 1, 2013
Format: Kindle Edition
I absolutely love Death Dealer. Of course I love anything written by Ashley Robertson, however, this one was a little out of the norm for genre when it comes to Ashley but she still didn’t disappoint. The world and story Ashley brought with Death Dealer was EPIC! The characters seemed so much more real than most even if it was Paranormal, they still were dealing with things that would hit home with a lot of people in today’s society and I think that’s what made this story that more awesome. I think I have been waiting for a book to blow me away, I haven’t read one in a while, I’ve read some really good books and even some that deserved 5 stars but its been a while since I have read a book that leaves me with a book high and wanting more. I love that there was no big cliff hanger but you still knew there was more to come. I cant wait to read the next in this series.
Mia Baron and Deacon Gage have been working as partners for a while now, however, they never really knew one another outside of work. That is til Mia was handed the one thing she had been waiting for, her own Justice for her parents murder. She soon finds out that she wasn’t the only Death Dealer given the same deal or that has lost loved ones however she soon finds out the Justice she seeks may not be as satisfying as she imagined. As if that’s not hard enough she has to fight off all kinds of monsters in order to perform her job and that could cost her, her life.
Ashley RobertsonI reside in sunny Orlando, Florida and love reading and writing about everything urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Meet the Author

B.L. Mooney started writing when the voices and storylines in her head ran out of room. They were getting too cramped and neither B.L. nor the characters could take it anymore, so she did the only thing she could do—she made room. She always knew she wanted to write, but vowed to make time for it later. Now that she’s made time for writing, most everything else falls to the wayside. That seems to suit the characters that keep popping up just fine.

B.L. lives in the Midwest and her other talents include in-demand cookies, a very dry sense of humor, and stealth eavesdropping. Some mannerisms, attitudes, or twists come from random sentences picked up while passing by strangers. So speak up the next time you have something to gossip about. You never know, it may just end up on the pages of the next book you read.

Excerpt from I Remember – Remembrance Series, Book 1

By Cynthia P. O’Neill

Prologue

I wandered along a path as the sun began to set across the horizon, lighting the sky with deep hues of orange, purple and pinks.  I didn’t know where I was, but the countryside was simply breathtaking.

“Angeline, where are you?”  A familiar male voice called out.

“Come find me, Daniel,” she announced playfully, in the distance.

Finding no one else around, I decided to head their way to ask for directions.

            “Where are you hiding, my love?  You know I will find you; and when I do, I will smother you with kisses,” he responded, full of laughter.

            Their voices led me to a beautiful meadow filled with spring flowers and the sound of a river in the distance.  They were dressed in Victorian fare, running playfully until Daniel caught the girl who must have been Angeline. They fell to the ground together, laughing, near a tall tree.

            As I walked toward them, I watched Daniel lean in to kiss Angeline softly on the lips, her hands circling around his neck and pulling him closer.  I stopped in my tracks feeling like I had invaded a private moment, but I still needed directions in order to return home.

            “Excuse me, I don’t mean to intrude but I could really use your help,” I stated softly, so not alarm them.

            They continued, without even a glance my way.   How rude.  I cleared my throat loudly and spoke again, but no answer.

            I was frustrated.  How could they not hear me?

            Suddenly, the landscape began to twist and shift into something dark and evil.  I tried to turn and run but found myself unable to move.  My heart began beating erratically as fear set in.

            A tall figure appeared before me with ghostly shadows swirling and moaning around it.  It was dressed in the darkest cloak I’d ever seen, with the hood draped in such a way as to cast shadows across the few visible areas of the face, making it impossible to see who or what it was.

            An arm rose revealing long willowy fingers, aged and deformed and pointed at me.  A sadistic female voice bellowed, “I warn you.  Do not seek him out!  The prophecy must not come to pass.  If you defy me, I will make your life a living hell, taking all that you hold dear.”

That’s when the figure’s head tilted up and her glowing red eyes locked onto mine, sending a chill down my spine.  Then the shadows began to swirl around my body, suffocating me.

“STOP!”  The scream came from nowhere, catching me by surprise.

“LEAVE HER ALONE!”  This time I recognized a man’s voice.

One of the shadows grabbed my arm and a piercing, “NOOOO” sounded, from deep within my chest, echoing off all that was around me.

My eyes shot open, as I bolted upright in bed.  I looked around and realized I was in my bedroom.

I reached for the light. Turning it on, I tried to catch my breath.  My only thought was that the dreams were back and they were worse.  I’d seen a witch spirit previously, but not to this extent.

Wrapping my arms around my chest to calm myself, I felt a sharp pain on my right arm.  I looked down to see the reddened hand print, where the dark shadow had grabbed me, slowly fading from existence.  What the heck?

Excerpt:

Over an hour into my work out on the elliptical, sweat covered my brow and a few curls had broken free from my elastic band, making them stick to the sides of my face and forehead. When I grabbed a towel to wipe the sweat away, my legs felt wobbly and weak. I bought a bottle of water from a vending machine and headed out.

In the parking lot, I saw the sky had darkened considerably, elongating the shadows. As I walked back to my car I realized the birds in the nearby trees slowly became silent.

Stopping, I scanned the street. Not a single person was out. Even the cool breeze when I left the gym had stilled, almost as though everything had frozen in time.

Without warning, my stomach rolled. Almost instantly I felt nauseous as the familiar dread of darkness surfaced inside of me. The force became so overwhelming I doubled over, gasping for air.

As I focused on breathing, deep guttural laughter echoed in the stillness nearby. My head snapped up, my eyes searching for the man in my dreams. My brain worked in overtime, wondering how my dreams had finally crossed the barrier into reality.

The laughter came again, only closer this time. He wanted me, wanted me to surrender the light of life to dwell in the darkness of death. My panic increased as my heart thundered in my chest. I couldn’t think clearly.

A few feet away, a man appeared, though he looked more or less the same age as me. Tall, well built with chestnut hair stopping at the hard angle of his jaw, and his eyes as black as a raven’s feather. He didn’t look like the same person from my nightmares. Not that it mattered–his presence still terrified me.

His lips twisted into a sinister grin, a mixture of evil and pain so clear I could taste it on my tongue. I tried to ease my panic and think clearly, but just like in my nightmares, I was losing.

“Who are you and what do you want?” Much to my surprise, my voice stayed even.

“You don’t know, do you?” He tilted his head to the side, watching me with amusement in his dark eyes. He slowly held a finger in the air and then began making circular movements. The motion created his own personal whirlwind, lifting the hair around his face.

He continued to walk toward me, controlling the wind with his finger. My panic increased; my insides felt like they were being stretched thin, ready to snap in half at any given second.

“What do you want?” This time my voice quivered at the end.

“You have got to be kidding me, right?” He shook his head. “This is easier than I thought it’d be.” He must have read the perplexed look on my face because he started laughing–hard. I would’ve been offended had I not been so freaking scared.

His thoughts and emotions become stronger with each step he took, overpowering my ability to shut off the inner darkness wanting to be set free. I wasn’t sure which way was up or down, left or right, and it didn’t matter.

For Allison, there is more to learn at her new school than just finding her way around. Soon she is attempting to make sense of her newly discovered sexuality, and wondering what it takes to fit in with the “cool” people at her school. Despite tragedy and several mistakes, Allison manages to survive. This novel leads the reader through the murky depths of high school, and reminds us all of the importance of true friendship.

Tara is always in the middle of something. Right now, that “something” includes a YA novel called “How Quick Bright Things” and a fantasy novel that is nearly done but has no title. In addition to writing, she loves to read. Her favorite author of all time is Courtney Summers. She thinks you should probably read her instead! No one captures high school better.

Excerpt:

BayberryHillPark was half an hour from Bethlehem in the small town of Castleton. The park was vast, with hiking trails, campgrounds and a stable. We parked near the entrance to the hiking trails. Patrick grabbed some maps from the information desk and we walked into the forest. It was the beginning of May and everything was green. The forest smelled fresh, like it had just woken from a long sleep, and the trees were at full. It was dark inside the trees, since very little light made its way through the leaves. We were on a well-beaten dirt path. We stopped at a clearing and sat down. Rachel and Patrick sat on a log, with their backs to the trail. Tim and I leaned against a tree, sitting in the damp grass.

“Hey, Tim, what happened last night?” Rachel asked. “We really didn’t get to talk about it. What’s up with Brian and Angie?”

Tim sighed, shrugged, and looked at Rachel. “You know how they are. Angie feels like she might not have Brian’s complete attention, so she invents a tragedy. There is always something. I don’t know. I don’t even know why I bother hanging around them anymore.”

“Why do you?” Patrick asked.

“Well, Brian’s my best friend. I’ve known him since we were both kids. We live only a few blocks from each other and used to do everything together. When Angie’s family moved in, the three of us became inseparable. Angie got breasts, though, and Brian stopped thinking about anything else. I don’t really have anyone but Brian anymore,” Tim explained.

“Tim and I have been hanging out with them forever,” Rachel added. “There used to be five of us, but it’s a long story. The point is we feel obligated to still hang out with them, even though they’re totally pathetic.”

Patrick nodded. “Yeah, I understand. Everyone has people like that.” I wondered to myself if I knew anyone like that. I supposed there had been people back home, but I couldn’t think of anyone in particular.

“So, who’s up for hiking?” Patrick asked. Rachel stood up, wiping dirt off her butt and reached for his hand.

“You guys go ahead,” I offered, knowing Rachel was hoping to spend time alone with Patrick. Tim and I got up, wet from the grass, and walked away from the clearing into a large open field. He took off his jacket and laid it on the ground for me to sit on. I lay down, facing the sky and closed my eyes. Tim lay down next to me, on his side, so he was leaning over me. He kissed me quickly, softly, and lay back on the ground. We stayed there staring at the sky, not speaking, for a few minutes. He pointed out clouds to me and I smiled, breathing in the warm, spring air. I turned over on my side, so I was looking at him, and played with his hair.

“I’m so glad you didn’t wear your hat. You have the coolest hair,” I said.

“Thanks, I think,” he laughed. “You’re so awesome. You’re not like anyone else.”

“You’re joking, right? I am so much like everyone else. I’m boring and plain and I can’t do anything.”

“That’s not true. You’re beautiful, funny, and really smart. I could tell you were smart the first time I met you. I know I never talked to you much, but I listened.”

I thanked him, blushing. I did not handle compliments well, mostly because I did not get them often.

“I don’t know. I just kinda wish I was more like Rachel,” I said.

“Why? Rachel’s cool and I really like her, but I like you more.”

Author Interview with Vanessa Fewings

What sparked your interest in becoming a romance writer?

While writing The Stone Masters Vampire Series, I thoroughly enjoyed sprinkling in romantic moments, sensual moments, to enhance the story. It feels like a very natural transition.

There’s nothing quite like falling in love and I take such great pleasure in observing it in my characters.

What was the first romance novel you read that made an impression on you?

Northanger Abby by Jane Austen.

Tell us 5 surprising things about yourself.

1.     I can write for 6 hours at a time and think it’s only been an hour.

2.     I’m a little shy.

3.     I’ve repelled out of a helicopter while serving as an officer in the British Army.

4.     After studying nursing I went on to become a midwife.

5.     I just co-wrote a romantic comedy novel called Piper Day with author/actress Christina Cannarella.

What is your writing environment?

I need minimal distractions. Tidy. Very quiet, other than music. When I’m writing the first draft I play film scores to get lost in the scene.

One of your favorite quotes.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
Maya Angelou

Do you have a website recommendation for other writers?

scriptsandscribes.com

Scripts and Scribes – it’s a great site to read interviews and watch videos where other writers share their secrets.

Who is your perfect hero? And why?

In my current novel it’s Mia. She’s very heroic.

My perfect hero is flawed. He or she puts others above themselves.

Which authors have caught your interest lately? Why?

Sylvia Day, she writes beautifully. I’m also a fan of Lisa Renee Jones. Both of these authors are incredibly brave. I also admire E. L. James. It took a lot of courage to write and promote her first erotic series, especially as a new author.

What type of book have you always wanted to write?

I began reading Isaac Asimov novels at a very early age. So one day in the future I’d love to pen a sci-fi novel.

Though right now I’m concentrating on writing the other books in my Enthrall Series.

Who are your dream dinner party guests?

I love having dinner with other writers.

What’s the last movie you watched and loved?

Silver Linings.

Top three things on your bucket list.

1.     Tour Great Britain with my American husband; I can’t wait to show him my home town.

2.     Visit and tour Italy.

3.     Attend a book signing for one of my novels in New York!

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?

The character Richard presented himself to me first and shared his story. That’s usually how I know the novel is organic. I get a sense of a character’s personality, their profession, their sexuality, their life story. Mia came next and her innocence was compelling especially when placed in the setting of L.A.’s most exclusive BDSM club. I wanted to write something sensual and sexy but also offer a storyline that had depth and meaning.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?

It might actually be the very last scene. Though it was thrilling to write each chapter.

If you could be one of your characters – Who would you be? And why?

Mia. J

Stained by Elizabeth Marx

“Is that why you were living in the same city as me and you never came to see me?” I asked a little bit more accusatorially than I meant to. “Why didn’t Mandy call me or come to see me?”

His jaw seemed to harden as he looked over the top of his sunglasses. “Do you want to know about me or Mandy?”

I rolled my eyes. “You know what I mean.”

“Maybe I was just admiring you from afar as I always have.” Revell merged onto the highway in the direction of Crossroads.

I snorted. “What’s Mandy’s excuse?”

Revell took one hand off the steering wheel and rubbed the back of his neck. “She took Daddy’s death hard and she’s been busy with school there.”

“So for some reason, which you won’t explain to me, one of few people I consider a true and loyal friend came to live in my home town and she didn’t even want to see me?”

Revell sighed. “Since you didn’t come here when Daddy died, maybe she thought your friendship was over.”

“Is that what you thought? That our friendship was over?”

“We weren’t friends, Scarlett, don’t fool yourself into believing that!”

“Then I’d like to know what we were?” I countered angrily.

He wouldn’t look at me, and his voice was rough and tense when he spoke. “You knew I’ve wanted you in every way a man can want a woman since you were fifteen.”

“Friendship is better than nothing, especially when what you wanted to happen between us was completely inappropriate.”
“It was only wrong if it was one sided or if I’d acted on it when you were under age.”

“The summer I was fifteen and Mamaw found us in the deer stand you came pretty close to you going to jail.”

“The age of consent in Alabama is bit lower than it is up North.”

“You were twenty, it was a crush on an older man on my part. What was it on your part?”

Revell paused, turned, and looked me up and down. “It was I’m going to rot in hell because I want a minor or I’m going to die a slow death because I don’t believe I can live without her.”

I grumbled in disbelief, “And yet here you are perfectly healthy and happy.”

“You were the one who just said that I don’t smile the way I used to.”

I moved away from his ire closer to the door. “Are you blaming me?”

“I’m not blaming anyone, I’m just trying to tell you how I feel because you wouldn’t let me tell you back then, and you never came back to let me explain how it was.” Revell sighed. “Why didn’t you come when I wrote you?”
“I couldn’t.”

“Couldn’t or wouldn’t?”

“Couldn’t, Revell, couldn’t.”

Insights eCover

The adventures of Owen Ryer and friends continue in this third installment of the five book series.  Dark watchers want to steal his powers and they will stop at nothing to get what they want.  From kidnapping to murder – When is enough, enough?  Can Owen defend the ones he loves or is all hope lost as he battles the greatest evil he has ever known?

Owen thinks he’s battle-hardened.  He has firm control of his gifts and his own watcher to train, yet with two years of experience behind him things are not getting any easier.  As Owen grows in experience, so does the darkness and danger.  Lucie is taken, making Owen realize just how much she really means to him, but is it her the dark watchers want or is she only the bait in an elaborate trap?

Author profile 5 cropI’ve always been a writer but let me tell you, it’s lots more fun when I can make the choices about where a story is going.  I’m also a teacher so I get that we have to have students meet certain criteria, but as a kid… I hated being told what to write.  The good side of growing up is that you can write whatever you want.  The down side… Now I can’t read it without my glasses!

My Secret Watchers series is about young Owen Ryer who discovers he has a special talent for seeing the darker side of life.  The things he is driven to do are not only dangerous but have to be kept a secret.  I sat down with my boys and began brainstorming based on some of our favorite characters from literature.  Wizards, vampires, werewolves, and the son of a god had already been done… so what was left?  Hello, special ability!  Mix in some unique features, some good friends, a strong mentor, helpful adults and voilà, I hope a star is born!  I’ve never been bitten by the writing bug with such vengeance and book one was completed in only six weeks!  Ten weeks later book two was complete and I’m now finishing book three and at work on book four with plans for five books in the series.

Personally, I’m drawn to all things ‘action-adventure’ in film and literature.  Notice I didn’t say ‘real life’?  No bungee jumping, cliff diving or parkour for me.  I’d likely kill myself as I’m a klutz.  Skydiving? Nope!  I’d be the one to fall out of the plane without a parachute.  My oldest and I have taken karate together and I’ve spent hours watching both boys participate in a variety of sports, including parkour, without incident, unless of course you count occasional broken toes.  I have created a character who is much braver, tougher and more graceful than I am.

It’s my wish that you, the reader, have at least half as much fun and connection to these characters as I have as I wrote them!  These books are for my family, friends, students and mentors.  Big hugs for you all!  We can be better – together!  Relax, enjoy and dream big!  Only you know what your tomorrows can hold!

Talking Dirty With the Player by Jackie Ashenden

VBT_TalkingDirtyWithThePlayer_Banner

It is my pleasure to interview Jackie Ashenden, author of Talking Dirty With the Player. Welcome to Room With Books, Jackie!

First let me give you a little background on Jackie.

Jackie Coates

Jackie has been writing fiction since she was eleven years old. Mild mannered fantasy/SF/pseudo-literary writer by day, obsessive romance writer by night, she used to balance her writing with the more serious job of librarianship until a chance meeting with another romance writer prompted her to throw off the shackles of her day job and devote herself to the true love of her heart – writing romance. She particularly likes to write emotional stories with alpha heroes who’ve just got the world to their liking only to have it blown wide apart by their kick-ass heroines.

She lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband, the inimitable Dr Jax, two kids, two cats and some guppies (possibly dead guppies by the time you read this). When she’s not torturing alpha males and their stroppy heroines, she can be found drinking chocolate martinis, reading anything she can lay her hands on, posting random crap on her blog, or being forced to go mountain biking with her husband.

1.  Tell me a little about Talking Dirty With the Player and what inspired you to write it?

When I sold my first book to Entangled – Talking Dirty with the CEO – I was asked to make it a series. My editor suggested maybe a sports hero – much to my annoyance since I don’t like sport much!  But then I thought about it and as the books are all set in Auckland, New Zealand, I decided I could do a rugby player since that’s our national game. Plus Judith, the heroine, didn’t know anything about rugby either which made Caleb perfect for her.

2.  When you start writing do you have the story outlined or do your characters dictate what will happen?

Nope, I never know what’s going to happen. The characters totally take the ball and run with it (see what I did there?? Rugby…ahem…even if it’s to somewhere I don’t want them to go!

3.  Have you ever had arguments with your characters and who usually wins?

Sometimes I wish my heroes wouldn’t make the decisions they make. But I usually let them go for it since once I start  pulling them back the story starts to suffer (and my critique partner yells at me).

4.  What is one thing about you your readers would be surprised to know?

I can quote Star Wars, A New Hope, verbatim? Although that’s not all that surprising if you know me…

5.  If you could write with any other author who would it be any why?

I would write with my critique partner, Maisey Yates. Because we have similar processes and enjoy messing with the heads of our characters.

6.  When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I totally wanted to be a writer. It’s true. I did.

7.  When you decide to write, what prompted you to start?

I’ve been writing since I was a kid (I’m not tell you how long ago that was) and I used to write romances in my spare time. I wrote about eight of them over a twelve year period (one of them was 300,000 words long!!) and as I was finishing it, I happened to meet a real live and published romance author. She encouraged me to just send something to a publisher and so I did. Took me five years to get published, but I got there in the end!

8.  What music, if any, inspires your writing?

I used to listen to music while writing when I was younger but these days I find I have to have silence. Otherwise I start writing down lyrics instead of the dialogue.  But listening to angsty music does put me in the mood to write I have to say.

Fun Facts about Jackie Ashenden:

What is your favorite breakfast?  Waffles!! Or pancakes!!

What is your favorite color?  Purple

What is your favorite movie?  Bah. I don’t have just one. Ummmm…Star Wars!

What is your dream car (details please)?  As long as I have my own personal chauffeur, I don’t care.

How can our readers find you?

Cover_TalkingDirtyWithThePlayerUp-and-coming photographer Judith Ashton is pretty sure she has everything in her life under control. That is, until a blast from the past comes back to taunt her, in the shape of Caleb Steele, her older brother’s best friend…and the man who broke her heart eight years ago. Their chemistry is combustible, but she’s been fooled once by this player, and she’s not going there again. To pro rugby player Caleb, Judith has always been his Kryptonite. But his former playboy lifestyle is the last thing she wants to be involved in. In the midst of her brother’s threats to back off, and the deal of his career sending him far away from her, he knows he’s playing with fire. And this is one game he’s going to lose.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is an excerpt from Talking Dirty With the Player:
His smile widened and Judith had to remind herself that she was now immune to its lethal charm. Completely immune. “Oh don’t be like that,” he said. “You missed me. Admit it.”
“Yeah. Like I miss gonorrhea.”
One dark brow rose. “You’ve had gonorrhea?”
Judith sighed. He was all about the witty comeback. If that’s what you called wit. “Oh, shut up, Caleb.”
“See, this is what I’ve missed while I’ve been away. I say something then you say something, then I say something back and you end with ‘shut up, Caleb’. We always have such great, in-depth conversations.”
Still the same old Caleb. Patronizing, arrogant, and cocky as hell. They’d been friends once, a long time ago. And then more than friends. Until he’d broken her poor little teenage heart. She’d forgiven him for that, though; it had been years and years since their affair, after all.
Eight years to be exact.
Nevertheless a familiar feeling began to creep up on her. An antsy, irritated feeling. Like she’d brushed up against poison ivy. Okay, so she may have forgiven him. That didn’t mean he didn’t bug her on occasion.
 Judith swallowed her irritation and maintained her usual calm-and-in-control expression. The one that seemed to exasperate him as much as his teasing arrogance exasperated her.
 “Did you have something special you wanted to say?” she asked him in bored tones. “Or are you just here to be annoying?”
 “Actually, I’m here to shoot you. Though, being annoying is always an added bonus.”
Jackie will be awarding a digital copy of Talking Dirty to the CEO and a $50 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. Follow the tour and comment; the more you comment, the better your chances of winning!
Bio:
Author L.U. Ann recently moved to Colorado from the Eastern Shore of Maryland with her husband and two children. Life in Colorado is so much different. In Maryland, you would find her in the garden tending to her vegetables and flowers, sea glass and shark tooth hunting once a week, and enjoying the kids swimming in the backyard. Her life took a drastic change when her family moved to their own “Little House on the Prairie” at an elevation of over 6,000 feet above sea level, and a semi-arid climate that makes it hard to grow anything. While barely anything can grow where she resides now, the wildlife makes up for it. Mountain Lions, and coyotes, and rattlesnakes, oh my!
She tries to spend a little time each day writing, but domestic chores around the house usually take precedence. She would much rather hide them from her husband. She tends to her loving four-legged children who at times become much too demanding when she locks herself in the office. This often results in MORE domestic work, and she finds herself cleaning up after their deviant behavior.
At night, you’ll find her begging the kids to go to bed so that she can catch up on the latest book before her sister can. Yes, she is an avid reader who escapes her chaotic but wonderful home to the feisty depths of romance land in search of her newest book boyfriend. Shh, don’t tell her husband!
She is an artist by the grace of God. She worked as a set designer for six years, helping establish a local children’s theatre where she was the scenery artist, set, and prop designer. Before that, you would find her covered in paint, so engrossed in painting a mural that time didn’t exist. Graphic design is her guilty pleasure.
Destructive Silence is her debut novel. It is one of three books in The Destructive Series. Each book will hit its reader with lots of angst hoping for a happily ever after.
Excerpt:
He pulled his phone from his pants pocket, typed some words rather quickly, and then returned it to his pocket.
“What are you doing?” I wondered aloud. I sincerely hoped that wasn’t about me.
“Nothing you need to concern yourself with.  Just had a thought that I’d like to run by someone and wanted to jot it down before I lost it.”
”Just so you know, I don’t like it when people are secretive around me.  It makes me nervous and I tend to push people away.”  I don’t know why I was being so upfront with him, but, this phone messaging had me on edge.  I can’t stand secrets.
He walked towards me with a wry smile and backed me slowly against the wall.  He leaned into me, tracing his nose up my neck, and I heard the closet door close.  “I like that you’re feisty, Laurel, makes life more interesting.”  His hands came to rest on the wall along each side of my head, caging me in, as he continued to trace his nose up to my face, across my chin, and down the other side of my neck.  His tone in his voice became sultry. “Do you still trust me?”
The electricity between us hung heavy in the air.  It was so palpable you could taste it. My skin was on fire from his touch.  Every synapse of every nerve ending was firing off rapidly and my breathing continued to accelerate.  Something felt dark and dangerous about Garrett, but at the same time, I’d never desired anyone more.  No one had ever managed to elicit the kind of reactions he was driving from my body.
He leaned in closer, his body molding up against mine. “Are you going to answer me?” he whispered in my ear, his voice becoming a little more commanding.
My eyes closed, trying to make sense of what I was feeling.  Just his voice and soft touch made my head spin; I was thankful that I had the wall to lean into for support.  I finally found the strength to answer. “Yes,” I murmured.
His lips began to nibble on my left earlobe. “Yes, you’ll answer, or yes, you trust me?”
“Yes, I trust you.”
His hand began to caress my face as his lips continued their assault on my earlobe and neck.  “Do you have any idea how breathtakingly beautiful you are tonight?  You’re driving me crazy.”
My head began to spin as his lips moved up across the side of my cheek to my chin at an achingly slow pace.  At the same time, his right hand started to travel down my neck, where his fingers traced the low neckline of my dress.
My heart raced as the palm of his hand brushed gently across one of my breasts.  I was surprised by how heavy my breasts felt.  I could feel my nipples harden, straining against the fabric of my bra.  Soon his lips were pressed hard on my mouth, tugging at my bottom lip.  “Ahh,” I moaned as his tongue plunged deeply into my mouth, sending my mind scattering to the heated overload of sensation my body was feeling.  Our mouths began to move in perfect unison with one another.
My conscience screamed at me. Tell him to slow down.  You know this is moving too quickly.  What are you thinking?!
I tried to move away, ever so slightly put some distance between our bodies, but his hips pressed harder, grinding into mine.  His erection felt huge, bulging out hard from his slacks and pressing up against my belly.  I couldn’t believe how much this man wanted me and was surprised that my body was responding with unheeded desire for him.
Garrett finally pulled back long enough for us to take in deprived lungs full of air.  After a few more breaths, I asked, in a rather shaky and exhaustive tone, “Can we please slow things down a bit?”
Both of his hands rose up the wall to rest on either side of my head.  He took a few more deep breaths and kissed me chastely on the lips before resting his forehead against mine.
“My apologies, Laurel, I don’t know what came over me.  There’s something about you that makes my body respond so intensely.  I’m like an alcoholic drawn to your intoxicating beauty and scent; I just can’t seem to get enough.  I’ve never had this kind of reaction to anyone before.”  He paused for a moment, taking in a deep breath to clear his mind. “I agree, though, we need to take things slower.”
He lifted one of my hands towards his lips and kissed it gently before placing it atop his shoulder.  He repeated the same thing with my other hand, indicating he wanted me encircling his shoulders.  Then he cupped my face with his own hands and leaned in for a gentle kiss.
The tenderness of this new kiss made me feel more secure in his arms.  We continued this way for what seemed like an eternity, until I heard the door open and Hannah walk in calling, “Laurel?  Are you here?”
We both pulled away from the wall.  He had a quizzical look on his face, as if he’d forgotten we were in the closet in my dorm room. “Roommate?” he whispered.
I nodded in response. What are we supposed to do now? Wait her out?
We waited to hear what she was doing.  As soon as we thought the coast was clear, we tried leaving the closet, only to find her standing there with her arms crossed and smiling up a storm, knowing she’d caught us.
She didn’t wait for an introduction, but stuck out her hand to Garrett. “Hi, Handsome, I’m Hannah, Laurel’s roommate.  And you are?”
Excerpt:
Logan walked into the kitchen, looked directly into Michael’s face, and grinned just to antagonize him.
“Is there a problem, Michael?”
“What’s your game, man?”
Logan took a step closer and cocked his head to the side.
“I don’t think I understand. Whatever do you mean, Michael?”
“Oh, you know damn well what I’m talking about. Why is it that every time I turn my back you’re all over my girlfriend?”
Logan sneered at him as his tone suddenly changed.
“What are you going to do, pal? You’re going to be gone, won’t you? Who do you think is going to pick up the pieces of her broken heart? Game over, my friend, I win.”
It was all Michael needed to hear. He’d always known Logan was after Christina, but to hear it from his mouth was a totally different story. Michael took the dish he was holding, threw it across the room, and then lunged at Logan. The two of them threw punches and tore up the kitchen. Logan threw Michael over the kitchen counter, and with him, all the dessert dishes. Michael in turn shoved Logan into the kitchen table, and the table collapsed under Logan’s weight. Tiffany screamed out for help.
Christina came running at the sound of the commotion. Andrew and Daniel followed behind her. Andrew grabbed hold of Logan and tried to pull him away. Daniel grabbed onto Michael and pulled him to the opposite side of the kitchen. Logan laughed a mocking laugh as he wiped the blood off his mouth.
“You’re so fucking done, my friend. Get the hell out of my house before I call the cops.”
Michael pulled himself out of Daniel’s hold. He couldn’t help seeing the look of disappointment written on his face. He knew Daniel would side with Logan and not want to hear the truth of what happened.
Michael felt defeated. He stormed through the house and out the front door. Christina looked at Logan and shook her head.
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
Logan ran his fingers through his hair and smirked.
“Ask your boyfriend. He’s the one who threw the first punch. I caught him with his hands all over Tiffany.”
Tiffany let out a cry.
“How can you say that? That’s a lie.”
“Of course you’d say that, wouldn’t you? You’ve been pining over him for years, haven’t you?” Logan lashed out at her. Tiffany began to cry and ran out the back door.
Christina was torn. She looked around and noticed everyone was staring in their direction, so she ran to Logan’s room to retrieve her bag. Logan followed behind her and closed the door.
“Where are you going? Are you seriously going to leave knowing what that man just did?”
She pulled the strap over her shoulder.
“I can’t stay here. I have to find Michael.” She began to walk to the door when she stopped and looked at him. “How could you do this, Logan? If you really do care for me, you’d stop with all the games, and just accept that I love him.” She pushed past him and out into the hall.
“Good bye, Logan.” She slammed the door as she left. Lani grabbed her.
“Go… just go and find him. I’ll look after things here. Find him before he does something stupid.” Christina ran out the front door. Lani heard a loud crash from behind her. She opened Logan’s bedroom door just in time to see the hole that Logan had just put in the wall with his fist.
A slight detour from books, but this video truly touched my heart. This is the son of an incredibly author, Joss Landry. Say “Hello” to One Road and the song is “Glory”.
