After suffering through heartbreak, Rose is determined to move on without Lee. She can’t cling to her first love forever, and she knows that. As long as he’s happy with his decision, she’ll struggle to move on.

But when Lee’s sister Grace invites her to a photoshoot in the French Alps for spring break, Rose quickly realizes it’s a trap – Lee and his new fiance Kiera are there too. Kiera toys mercilessly with Lee and Rose and their feelings for each other.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“Say it again,” He murmurs. “My name. I want to hear it in your voice again.”

I’m shaking, but I manage to open my mouth.

“Lee.”

He kisses me then, fully and with enormous weight. His lips practically crush mine, his kisses bruising as he trails them across my cheek, up to my ear, and back down to my lips again. His one free hand laces around my back, and I moan and arc into him. I know it’s wrong, I know he has a fiancé and he loves her, but this is everything I’ve wanted for months. A voice in my head chants for me to stop, over and over, but he feels so right in all the wrong ways – his biceps against my back, his thick wrist and long fingers nearly tangled in my hair, his hard need pressing against my stomach through his jeans.

A Bargained-For Bride by Marcia Lynn McClure

Tour Schedule

a bargainedA Bargained-For Bride by Marcia Lynn McClure (Novella)

Excerpt

“You’re the sweetest girl in Mourning Dove Creek, you know?” Jack mumbled as he paused in kissing Jilly a moment.

Jilly smiled. “And you’re the handsomest man in Mourning Dove Creek, you know,” she flirted in return.

Jack smiled. “I do know,” he said.

Jilly giggled. Jack Taylor was so predictable—and a little conceited. He really did think he was the handsomest man in Mourning Dove—and he was, for the most part.

Secretly, however, if Jilly ever allowed herself to be completely honest about it (which she tried to avoid), there was one other man in Mourning Dove who always crossed her mind when the subject of the handsomest man in town arose. Yet there was no lingering on thinking of that man—no sirree! Not for a moment! Not for any reason—ever. And so Jilly just kept telling Jack that he was the handsomest man in Mourning Dove Creek. Besides, it was almost true—being that the other man lived outside of town and not right in town the way Jack did.

<><><><><><><><><><>

SFBlurb:

And you thought Emmy’s life was a hot mess before…

Jack’s gone off to Arizona with his brother, but for how long? Emmy doesn’t have a clue. In his place, though, is Zachary. The whiny, miserable, alpha wolf–boy who is more than ready to take on the duty of her mate/boyfriend — if she’d let him, that is. But the last thing Emmy wants is to deal with a boy who believes that the world should fall solely at his feet whenever he demands it.

But hey, at least her step–douche is gone, and her life is back to an almost normal sense, right?

Wrong again, Emmy’s life will never again be normal…

With her Uncle Prick in town and her best friend acting as secretive as ever, Emmy finds new challenges to overcome — challenges that no seventeen–year–old girl should ever have to deal with. For one thing, what is up with her dream–liaison status anyway? What does it mean, really? And why does her little brother have to go through it too? And then there’s her mom. The lady is acting a tad bit odd, to put it nicely. After all these years, she finally wants to step up and be a parental figure? Heck no! Emmy’s definitely not copacetic with that idea.

But with the bad, there’s got to be some good out there for her somewhere, right?

Add in the wolves, witches, drama, and lots of kisses and you get Emmy the Extraordinaire, the girl with strawberry–colored hair, and a chip on her shoulder. She’s finally on her way to finding out what her life and her future both have in store for her, even if the road to getting there is nowhere near as easy as she hoped it would be. But Emmy is tough, and more than ready to take on life with her bare hands.

It’s just too bad she’s madly, desperately, insanely in love with a boy who insists on making her life both a miserable hell and utter perfection at the same time.

Excerpt:

Pressure, fire, wetness, tongues — single words were all I could think as our mouths battled. God, I’d never been kissed like this before. Ever, and if we stopped, I’d die a happy woman from his lips touching mine alone. He tugged his hand into the back of my hair, pulling my chin upwards, yanking me towards him. I clawed at his shirt, ready to rip it from his massive body. I pulled at his jacket first, lowering it over his shoulders until it fell to the floor. The buttons jingled against the tile, scattering over our feet. Damn, if he didn’t care about his signature black coat falling apart, then I had to wonder what else I could get away with.

The man who saved her is also the man who destroyed her…or is he?

Seven years ago, I decided I wanted to be a fighter. Marcus Roma showed me how.

Six years ago, my parents died in a car accident. Marcus Roma picked me up off the ground and held me until I could stand on my own two feet.

Five years ago, I fell in love with him.

And then Marcus Roma disappeared. No warning. No explanation. Just gone.

Yesterday, he came back.

And now I have to decide who’s telling the truth, and who’s lying. Who wants something from me, and who wants…Me.

If I guess wrong, I could lose everything. I need to think clearly. But Marcus makes that impossible. Marcus makes me weak. Marcus makes me want, in a way I’ve never felt before.

Marcus Roma will make me fall. The only question is—will he be there to catch me this time?

TEASER/EXCERPT:

I stand there, swaying, digging for my Metrocard as the bus finally begins to pull away from the curb. The light ahead on Delancey Street is green, and beyond that is the long expanse of the Williamsburg Bridge. My heart is thudding against my ribcage, each beat threatening to crack the thin veneer of stability I have erected around me and let it all out: all the tears, the heartbreak, the grief. The loneliness. The lust. I just manage to swipe my Metrocard, catching myself on the handrail as the bus lurches ahead, when I hear it.

Marcus pounding on the bus door.

I don’t know why, but I turn to watch him. Everybody else thinks he’s just a guy who missed the bus in the rain, who knows he can’t catch a cab when the weather’s like this, who’s pissed he’s going to have to wait to get across the bridge.

But I know he’s chasing me.

That Marcus Roma, for once, is the one chasing me.

Now, from inside this bus, from the other side of what might as well be an impenetrable barrier, I can look at him. I can look at him run after me, a look of desperation on his face that I’ve only ever seen once or twice, and only when he didn’t know how to help me. Marcus Roma raw is too much for me to handle right now. Maybe ever again. No one else has ever seen through me like Marcus, no one else has ever stripped me of all pretense. It was always intoxicating. It was always a rush.

It always made me so very, very vulnerable. Once it made me strong, too. Now?

Now it would just make it all that easier to fall.

But would it? And here is where I really start to drive myself crazy, in the seconds when I’m watching Marcus run in the rain, falling farther behind the bus with every step. Because now that I’m not standing in front of him, exposed to those eyes, I’m thinking, Maybe this is actually what I need.

Maybe I need to yell at him. Maybe an explanation would end it. Maybe it would exorcise the ghost of Marcus Roma from my life once and for all and I could move on.

Or maybe this is just my body making rationalizations for what it wants. Which is Marcus.

Five years, and I’ve never forgotten the feel of his hands on my body.

My throat tightens up and my mouth goes dry. We’re on the bridge. Marcus is far behind us. The rain slams into the big, broad windshield of the bus as we speed toward Brooklyn, and I’m thinking about how I just ran. I never used to run. That’s not what I do. I’m a fighter.

Marcus taught me that.

I fought my way through after my parents died in the accident, with Marcus’s help. I fought for Dill. I fought for my own freedom. And I just ran from Marcus, because I wasn’t sure I could fight…

What?

I’m kidding myself. I know what. I know what I had begun to feel for him before he left, what I never stopped feeling, even after he was gone: no man has ever made me feel like that. Like he could turn me molten with just a look. Like I could drown in him, like I wanted to drown in him. Like I loved him so much that everything else faded away, like I could live on that feeling alone, burning bright and beautiful in the dark of my wounded heart.

I’ve thought about what it felt like to have Marcus Roma touch me so many times. What it was like to have him inside me. Even after he abandoned me without any explanation, even after he broke me, even after he did all that knowing exactly what it would do to me, he’s still the only man I’ve ever dreamed of. I’ve had other men since then, and every time I’ve been painfully aware of how much they were not Marcus.

Fuck him for that. Seriously.

I’m angry and overwhelmed and I’m feeling way too many things in a short period of time, like all the joy, rage, loss, grief, and lust of those years is condensed into this one moment on a public bus, speeding across the Williamsburg Bridge, and this is the one time I can’t shut down my brain. I can’t stop myself from asking what if? What if I don’t see him again? What if he just doesn’t care to try again? What if this is it?

What if this is the last time I see him, and I’ve run away?

Great. I get to add shame to the mix of emo crap I’ve got brewing inside me. I feel like I’m going to be sick. Apparently it’s noticeable, because a guy sitting up front actually gets up and offers me his seat. You have to be very pregnant or very old or, apparently, very much on the verge of totally losing your shit in public to get that offer.

I say thanks, but no thanks. I grip the handrail harder. I need to feel myself grounded to the physical earth, not resting on a seat, mind free to wander and think about all the what-ifs. About how, if I’m truly honest, for that one second when I locked eyes with him, I felt like I did back in the old days. Like I wasn’t alone in the world. Like I had a teammate. Just because he could see me and I could see him.

And if there’s one thing I still need, almost more than I need my next breath, it’s to feel like I’m not alone in the world.

Except that I am. And I have been, since Marcus left. Maybe when Dill is older I won’t feel like that. But right now I’m all Dill has, and I have to stay strong and sane. Which means no chasing after the man who made me this way, or letting him chase after me, or indulging in any of that hopeful bullshit that is sure to get my heart broken all over again.

So it’s done. He’s gone. Probably he won’t try to contact me or anything, since he hasn’t tried to already. It was just a chance encounter, and now it’s over. That is a very good thing.

So why am I hyperventilating? Why is my palm sliding down the handrail, slick with sweat?

Why do I feel nauseous when I think, it’s over.

It’s been over. Christ, Harlow, get a grip!

People are still looking at me. I’m soaking wet, my blonde hair plastered to my head, my leather jacket beaded with rain. I can feel that my lips are blue. The bus is slowing down, running into traffic on the other end of the bridge, and I think this is good. This will give me some time to get myself together, to get my head right before I have to go home and see Mr. Wolfe.

And then it hits me. Mr. Wolfe. Marcus.

Both back in town at the same time.

That can’t be a coincidence.

I think that, and relief blossoms in me. Because Marcus isn’t here for me. It’s not about me; it never was. He’s here because Mr. Wolfe is here. Marcus is still working for him. So even if I’d decided that getting some kind of closure, or an explanation, or whatever was a good idea, it’s not like I’d get it. Because Marcus isn’t here for me. I just dodged a major, major bullet.

This is what I tell myself while the bus lurches toward the other end of the bridge. This was a lucky escape; bullet dodged. I can’t ever be in a position where I want more from Marcus than he wants from me. I can’t let him back in my life.

And it’s not a problem, because he’s not here for me.

I tell myself this over and over and over again.

By the time the bus slows to a stop in Williamsburg, I’ve calmed down slightly. Figuring out that Marcus still doesn’t give a crap is somehow liberating, I guess because it’s a familiar kind of pain. Like, that I know how to deal with, if only because I’ve had a lot of practice. It was just the shock of seeing him that put me off balance. I’m over it now.

I’m totally over it.

I climb down the stairs, out of the bus, almost expecting to see, like, sunshine and bluebirds and whatever else—that’s how liberating that thought feels. Marcus is across the river, on a different island entirely, and out of my life, and if I can just avoid him from here on out, I will only have the real estate developers and Mr. Wolfe to deal with.

So, no worse than things were when I got up this morning.

I’m expecting the clouds to part and the sun to shine, but obviously it’s still raining. That’s ok, too. I let it wash over me, imagining the relief I’ve convinced myself I’m supposed to feel, trying to let it flow through me all over again before I walk home in the rain, umbrella-less.

I close my eyes, turn my face up to the sky.

When I open them again, I see Marcus.

Standing tall, breathing hard, his black hair wet with rain. Hat gone. Coat open, white dress shirt soaked through, his pecs and abs contracting with every strained breath. Pale gray green eyes on fire.

“Harlow,” he chokes out.

He’s still holding my umbrella.

He ran. He chased me across the bridge. He beat a bus, across the bridge.

To catch me.

He’s panting still, out of breath, and now it’s like he’s stolen mine, too. He takes another step toward me and this time I can’t look away. His eyes have me. It’s the same, the same as it always was, only different, now, too: more. There’s all those years, all those shared memories flying between us, swirling around in an invisible field that I know we both feel, all those things that we know about each other that no one else will ever really, truly know, no matter how much we might want to tell them, because they weren’t there. It was just us. Just Marcus and me.

And those eyes, seeing through me.

And now there’s what’s different about it, too. What’s changed. How I can’t ignore the man he’s become. Jesus God, no one could ignore that. Can he see through that, too? Can he see me watch his body move, watch how he brushes that black hair out of his eyes, how the rain is caught on those long eyelashes? How when he licks his lips, moving toward me, I’m transfixed?

The thing between us is alive, I swear to God. All that history, all those memories, and now this, this unique awareness of the physical man in front of me, and the way my traitorous body responds: it’s a living thing, whipping between us, drawing us closer, something blind and stupid, fierce and feral. It’s choking me, making it hard to see straight, to remember all the reasons I have to be afraid for my heart. All I can see is that strong jaw, those huge shoulders, that tie dancing in the wind, water dripping down his face while he looks at me with those beautiful, sad eyes…

No single human being has ever hurt me the way Marcus Roma has, and now he’s back. And I don’t want him to leave. And that will be my downfall.

If I let it.

“What are you doing?” I whisper. It’s all I can think to say. I don’t understand any of this. Why is here? What does he want from me?

“You ran,” he says. Like that’s an explanation.

“I can’t,” I say. I don’t know what to call what’s happening, or what might happen, but with every step he takes toward me, I know.

“I can’t,” I say again.

Marcus’s face screws up like he’s in actual pain. “Please, Harlow,” he says. “Just talk to me.”

He puts his hand out. Such a simple thing, and yet it means everything. I stare at it for I don’t know how long, not trusting myself to look him in the eyes again. The worst part of this is that I want to take it so badly. I want…whatever I can get.

And that is pathetic.

If it weren’t for Dill, I’d throw myself at his mercy all over again. My heart is pounding, my blood rushing in my ears, my body and soul screaming for some kind of release from the last five years of torture. From five years of not knowing why. From five years of thinking he just didn’t care enough, of thinking that I was just that easy to throw away.

And I’d do it all over again, if it weren’t for my responsibilities.

“I don’t talk to ghosts,” I say, and walk away.

I walk away, but I don’t escape. Not even a little bit. I feel his eyes on me the whole time. I feel him, with me. And all the way home, the only thing I can think is: What does Marcus Roma want from me?

After all this time, what does he want?

Kiss Me in Paris by Dmytry Karpov & Kimberly Kinrade

KissMeInParis - Tourbanner

Welcome to my stop for the Kiss Me in Paris blog tour, organized by Grapevine Book Tours.

It was everything I expected, and more!

I was lost in the story of Cade and Winter from the very beginning. They  captured my heart as they captured each other’s. Too often authors take you  through the typical boy meets girl, tragic  separation, and joyful reunion…the  end. With Kiss Me in Paris I found a beautiful story where friendship developed before the realization that love looms in their future. I was allowed to live  Paris through their adventures, see their relationship grow, and watch them fall  in love through the telling of their story through two sets of  eyes.

This  unique viewpoint is what endeared this novel to me and made me a true follower  of this round the globe series! I am so excited about the places I’ll travel and  the people I’ll meet along the way!

The team of  Kimberly Kinrade and  Dmytry Karpov is a winning combination, making writing  magic along the way!

Rescue Me by Jody Vitek

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Rescue Me - finalCan Catherine accept the consequences of a great-aunt’s dying wish without losing her heart or independence?
Taking in stray, injured or needy animals, veterinarian doctor Catherine Mornelli opens the Four Hooves and Paws Rescue program. But the land where the animals are kept is being sold. She approaches her Great-Aunt Elaine about possibly using her barn. However, visiting her aunt and checking out the barn also means seeing her ex-boyfriend.
Josef Garrison farms land that once belonged to his family for generations but went to his neighbor Elaine after his great-grandfather lost it in a poker game to Catherine’s great-grandfather. When Catherine returns, he sees a way to win back her heart and the land at the same time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

Catherine met him on the steps. “I didn’t expect you here so soon.”

“Well, if there’s water in the basement, ya don’t have time to waste.” Josef walked to the back of the truck and opened the tailgate. “I brought my pump to get the water out. Then we’ll assess the damage.”

Josef wiggled his way into water waders, put a bulky roll of tubing over his shoulder and grabbed the large pumping mechanism. “I’m assuming ya haven’t gone down there yet?” He peered back at her.

“I tried, but I couldn’t do it.”

“What is it with you and that basement?” He set the pump on the ground. “Ever since you were little, you’ve never liked going down there. You afraid of the boogeyman getting you?” He chuckled, but she didn’t find it funny.

“No. Maybe it’s the steep narrow stairs, stone walls, dirt floor and lack of windows down there. I don’t know. I get crept out.”

“Well, let’s get to work.” Josef walked in and straight for the basement.

“What do you want me to do?” She followed as far as the top of the stairwell.

He turned on the second step and looked at her. “Come stay at my place.” He stated it plain and simple, continuing down the wooden staircase and stepped into water. He turned with a stern face. “Shit, Catherine! Why didn’t you shut the water off?” and disappeared from site.

She winced. It couldn’t be helped. She tried going into the basement but couldn’t. There was mumbling from the basement, but nothing clear could be made out because of the splashing. He probably cursed her with each step.

Excerpt:

Back on the sand I talked Emily into paddling along the water’s edge. She whined a little, complaining about the cold, but when I threatened to chuck her whole body into the frothy sea she soon quit moaning and followed me towards the shore. I stood still for a few long seconds when we reached it – gazing out in awe towards the endless stretch of unsettled water.

For a moment I was back home. I was alone, admiring the effervescent waves crash against the rocks, taking forgotten debris and lost branches with them as they ventured back out into the impossibly vast ocean, and wishing they could take me with them.

“Crap that’s cold!” Emily blared as a small wave lapped over her bare foot, snapping me back to consciousness.

“Quit being a pussy,” I replied, kicking up a mighty-big spray of water her way. She jumped away from me quicker than if I’d just pulled a knife on her.

“Oh my God, Dexter!” she squealed! “Stop it!” she continued when I splashed her again. “I mean it now. Stop,” she added after the third time, growing a little more serious each time. But I was having too much fun. Her angry face was too cute.

Sensing her irritation growing by the second and enjoying it more than I should (I’m mentally stunted remember?) I scooped her up in one swift movement and tossed her over my shoulder, running deeper into the ice-cold water.

“Dexter, please. Put me down!”

“You got it, doll,” I said, laughing lightly and plopping her down into the waist-high water.

“No! Please!” Any trace of humor immediately evaporated from my body. “PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE,” she begged, her eyes on fire with panic. She was all-out scared. Fuck that she was petrified.

I lunged forward instantly, taking her in my arms like a baby and ran as fast as the soft sand beneath my feet would allow, towards the dry land.

“Jesus, Em, I’m so sorry,” I rushed out. She was shaking in my arms. It was more than just the cold – it was pure unadulterated fear. “Shh, doll. You’re out now. I’ve got you,” I reassured. She buried her head in my chest and her body vibrated against me as the tears started to flow. What the fuck had I done? “I’m sorry, doll. I’m so fucking sorry.”

Slowly but surely her body began to relax against me. Then she looked up at me just long enough to say,

“Take me home.”

So I did. And all the day’s fun and giggles became nothing but a grieved memory.

EXCERPT:

At the second ring of the bell, Rustam knocked on the door to Halnashead’s study. He glanced uneasily up and down the empty corridor. Where were the guards? Perhaps Halnashead had sent them away to protect Dart’s identity, but the back of Rustam’s neck prickled, and that was a warning sign he never ignored. He slipped his small dagger from its wrist sheath, and eased the door open. The room was mostly in darkness, with just a row of candles flickering on the front edge of the prince’s substantial desk. There was someone behind the desk, though Rustam could not make out who stood there.

Wending his way between the high backed chairs and ornate tables that cluttered the main floor space of the study, Rustam trod as lightly as he could with his injured leg, balancing on the balls of his feet, prepared to dive for cover at the slightest hint of trouble. He held the walking cane poised in his left hand like a javelin ready to throw, the dagger nestling coldly in his other palm. His eyes roved the room for signs of a third person. If that was Halnashead behind the desk, then Dart could be anywhere. And if it wasn’t…

With a rustle of ivory silk, the figure behind the desk sat down, bringing her face clearly into the candlelight. Rustam stopped in confusion, hastily lowered the cane to a more conventional position and made a small bow. “Your pardon, my Lady. The prince asked me to meet him here…”

Rustam’s voice trailed off as the Lady Risada Delgano vas Domn laughed; a resigned, self-mocking sound.

“My Lady?”

Risada shook her head. “Ah, Chalice. I suppose it had to be you, with your pretty face and your courtly manners.”

The study door opened, and Rustam spun around. Silhouetted against the light from the corridor was Halnashead’s bulky figure. The prince shut the door and strode across the room. “Splendid,” he said, rubbing his hands together. “I see you two have met at long last.”

“What?” blurted Rustam, his famed manners deserting him. “You mean—”

Lady Risada vacated the prince’s chair, and moved around the desk, preceded by her exotic perfume. Rustam’s breathing became rapid, though whether in response to the heavy scent or the lady’s proximity, he wasn’t sure. Halnashead sat down and beamed at them.

“Dart, meet Charmer. Charmer, meet Dart.”

Rustam looked pleadingly at Halnashead. “You’re joking, surely? You must be. She can’t be Dart; she’s—”

“What?” cut in Lady Risada. “A woman?”

“No! Well, yes. I suppose so.” Rustam shifted uncomfortably, his mind reeling as it tried to adjust to the concept of a noblewoman as a player. Female servants on occasion, yes. But a lady?

He glanced aside at the lady in question. She stared coldly back.

“Please, please!” Halnashead drew their attention. “I want you two to get on with each other. Does it surprise you so much, Rusty?”

Rusty?” echoed Lady Risada derisively.

Taken aback by the lady’s obvious animosity, Rustam considered the prince’s question. “I suppose it shouldn’t. With her court position, the lady has access to all levels of nobility. Certainly a great asset to your Highness.”

“And don’t you forget it, dancer boy,” muttered Risada.

Halnashead frowned. “Be nice, Risada. Rustam is my most skilled agent.”

“Most skilled womaniser, you mean!”

“Risada, enough.” Halnashead did not raise his voice, but his displeasure was clear. The corners of Rustam’s mouth quirked up, but he quickly dropped the smirk when the prince scowled at him.

“You will get on with each other. This is a serious matter and you are both professionals; I expect you to behave as such. Now sit down. This could be a long meeting.”

Just Ella

Just Ella by Annette K. Larsen

Book Summary:

A Proper Romance

Ariella was only looking for a distraction, something to break up the monotony of palace life. What she found was a young man willing to overlook her title and show her a new and vibrant way of life. But when her growing feelings for Gavin spiral out of control and clash with the expectations of her station, she will discover that the consequences of her curiosity are far more severe than she’d imagined.

I watched in helpless horror as two guards hauled Gavin to his feet and dragged him from the room. My voice was frozen, unable to protest as another guard took hold of my arm, leading me upstairs. From the confines of my room, I stared into the darkness beyond my window, hoping to catch one more glimpse of Gavin. He was gone, and I wondered if he would have been better off if he had never met me.

I write clean romance. Why? Because that’s what I love to read, but over the years I’ve discovered it’s quite a challenge to find good clean romance. I believe it’s a genre that many people are looking for and too few authors are writing. My first novel, Just Ella, took me many years to write because I wanted it to be more than just a cutesy love story. I wanted it to have depth, to feel genuine. Hopefully I succeeded, but you’ll have to be the judge.

Excerpt

“Now, wait just a minute. You can’t just plunge into a pool of water.”

“Why not?” I should have said something cleverer, but I felt a bit scatterbrained, all thoughts having fled when Gavin’s arm went around me.

He made a noise of exasperation. “Why not, she asks. Because, Princess, what’s going to happen when you show up for your lessons completely drenched? Or, what happens when we both show up on the palace grounds completely drenched? I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have to explain that to anybody.”

Unfortunately, he had a point. “Don’t call me Princess.” He had been so relaxed today, so willing to be himself and let me be myself. I hated that he felt the need to remind me of my rank. I was tempted to be angry and walk away but I also wanted to see how long he would keep his arms around me. Simply out of curiosity, of course.

annetteAuthor Annette K. Larsen

I was born in Utah, but grew up in Flagstaff Arizona and St. Louis Missouri, the fifth of seven children. I attended college at Southern Virginia University and Brigham Young University where I studied English and Theater. I now live in Idaho with my husband and four children.

I have Charlotte Bronte to thank for the courage to write novels. After being bombarded with assigned reading about women who justified abandoning either their families or their principles in the name of love, I had the great fortune of reading Jane Eyre. And that was it: finally a heroine who understood that being moral and making the right choice was hard, and sometimes it hurt, but it was still worth it. After rereading it several years later, I realized that if I wanted more books to exist with the kinds of heroines I admired, then I might as well write a few myself. My books are about women who face hard choices, who face pain and rejection and often have to sacrifice what they want for what is right. The consequences are often difficult or unpleasant, but it the end, doing what’s right will always be worth it.

I believe there is no substitute for good writing or good chocolate. Fortunately, one often leads to the other.

Excerpt:

Awake.

Danny Shanklin woke hyperventilating, his heart trying to punch through his ribs. Opening his eyes, he recoiled. Bright light. Burning red. He twisted.

Got to get away.

Pain.

His right forefinger. It was caught in something. Left hand too. He tried to see what. Saw more burning red. Forced himself to keep looking. The red fractured into a blizzard of pink dots. The pink dots faded into blue.

A rectangle of blue. Right there. Dead ahead.

‘What the…?’ Danny’s mouth was dry as ash.

He felt something solid behind his back. A chair? Was he sitting? His neck throbbed like he’d been stung. He couldn’t slow his breathing. His heart kept hammering.

Where am I? What’s going on?

A scream in the distance. Muffled shouts.

The blue was the sky, Danny realised. The rectangle was a set of open French doors leading out onto a balcony. The buildings across the street lurched into view. Rows of windows glinted in the sunlight. A hot breeze blew in his face.

Danny tried to stand. Faltered. Whatever his hands were caught up in slid sideways with a thud. He felt cold metal in his right hand. His left was entwined in what felt like a strap.

Even before Danny looked down and the object swung fully into focus, he’d already guessed what it was.

A rifle. Its barrel was now aimed down at the floor beside him. His right forefinger was wedged through the weapon’s trigger guard. His left hand was bound up in its shoulder strap.

A Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifle.

But why am I holding it?

Heartbeat still racing. Muscles flexing. Buzzing now. Feeling crazed. Like he’d just been in a fight.

A voice inside him yelled, Move.

Tightening his grip on the rifle, Danny rose and spun. The short corridor behind him was empty. The door at the end was closed.

He kicked away the chair he’d been sitting on. He dropped to one knee and scanned the room. A glass table. A sofa. Expensive furniture all around. An open door led into what looked like a bedroom. No-one in sight.

He glimpsed a flash of white on the ground. His own feet. He was wearing  a pristine pair of Nikes he’d never seen before.

He couldn’t remember anything. Was he hallucinating? Was that what this was? Some kind of a crazy dream?

The sounds of shouts and car horns drifted in on the breeze. A siren wailed. Another scream.

Danny’s eyes locked on the sofa. Someone had been sitting there. He half-glimpsed a memory. A mocking smile on a thickset, hook-nosed blonde man’s face.

Splinters of information pierced Danny’s mind. This was the Ritz Hotel, he remembered. Room 112. Third floor.

But what am I doing here?

More screaming.

Outside.

Lethal Journey by Kim Cresswell

Writing “The End”

For me writing “The End” is always a mixture of excitement and sadness.

I originally wrote Lethal Journey in 1996. It’s a novel inspired by my fasination with the Mafia combined with my love for action-packed thrillers.

It was a story I tucked away after a wonderful author I’d met online passed away from cancer. Christina Harris was a friend, my writing mentor and a two-time Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Finalist. Unfortunately, she died before I finished writing my debut romantic thriller, REFLECTION.

In 2006, Lethal Journey was a finalist in From the Heart Romance Writers (FTHRW) Golden Gate Contest -Romantic Suspense category.

Since 1996, Lethal Journey has evolved from being a romantic suspense to a intricate thriller loaded with intrigue and action and I’m glad I decided to rewrite the story. I think Christina would be very proud.

ARV CoverBlurb:

June 6, 2014: The beginning of the end. The Apocalypse.

A nuclear fallout wiped out every living thing on the planet, except for a few thousand of us who took shelter in underground bunkers across the globe. Now, after thirteen long years, we were finally able to return to the topside to begin to rebuild.

We thought we were alone. We were never more wrong.

Before the fallout, scientists had worked on creating an anti-radiation vaccine (ARV). The first two attempts failed, but despite the incomplete tests and results, the government approved and distributed the third serum to the masses in an effort to aid those who had no shelter.

It worked, keeping those who remained on the topside alive, but it also altered and mutated them. This new and infectious threat had completely outnumbered us. Now, we not only had to rebuild our planet. We would have to fight for it.

My name is Abigail Park. I’m seventeen, and this is my story.

Excerpt:

After returning the box to its hiding place, he reached for his phone, rotating it to different angles. “The next cache is about a mile up the trail. Once we loop around, we’ll stay to the left when the path splits.”

“I’ll follow you.” I didn’t want to admit it, but I was having more fun than I ever thought I would. It was like having a treasure map where “X” marked the spot, except the treasure was a bunch of worthless stuff.

We continued up the path for about a mile. Just like he said, we looped around and headed back on the Confederate side of the trail. After another thirty minute hike, it was time to turn left. That was until we noticed that turning left meant navigating a huge section of fallen trees and thick brush with thorns.

“Now what?” I asked.

“Well, it isn’t much of a trail, but the cache must be over there. The hint has to do with a pile of leaves.” He took a closer look at the trees, rocks, and fallen leaves that blanketed the area. “I think it might be by that big lump of leaves, but the map says it’s a little farther away.”

“Should we check it out?” I asked, hoping he would say no.

“I’ll search this area. Go ahead another hundred yards and see if you can find an easier path to the leaves.”

I started alone up the trail. Mason yelled a couple of times. He must have been knee-deep in thorns. I grinned. It was the first time I had heard him use profanity. I kept moving forward, but my trail narrowed and roots stuck through the dirt like speed bumps. With my attention searching for piles of leaves, I tripped on a root, falling to my hands and knees. As I brushed away the dirt, I looked in Mason’s direction, hoping he didn’t see how uncoordinated I was. The way the trail curved, he was out of sight. There was no way he saw me fall. I continued forward, keeping my eyes on my feet.

“Will!”

My head snapped around when I heard Mason scream. It wasn’t the same, I found the cache scream of joy as before. The pitch of his voice was high and sharp. He was panicking, yelling for help. I couldn’t imagine what could have scared him this much. I sprinted in his direction. The trail led me around a dense area of brush. Then I spotted him. He sat on the ground, frantically driving his feet into the forest floor, pushing himself backwards, away from a pile of leaves.

“Calm down,” I said. “Are you hurt?”

“Get him off me! Help! Get him off me!”

“What is it, a bug?” As I reached for his hand to pull him to his feet, I caught a closer glimpse of his face. He was pale, almost transparent. It was like something had scared him enough to freeze his blood. His mouth hung open and his eyes stretched wide, strained on something in front of him.

“Mason, you’re freaking out. What’s wrong?”

“Oh my God, Will! Help me! Please help me!” Tears now flooded down his face.

I moved behind him, hoping to recreate his point of view. Then I saw what had frightened him. Partially covered by a mound of wet leaves, a light, chalky grey hand, the color of sidewalk cement, lay flat across the ground. It almost touched Mason’s leg, like it was trying to grab at his ankle. I held my breath and my heart thumped in my ears as I followed the shirt-covered arm until I saw the dull, lifeless eyes of someone I knew.

“It’s Mr. Peters.”

REVIEW by V. Dold on 9/20/2013 at http://tbr-io.blogspot.com/2013/09/my-review-of-good-intentions-by.html

D.N. Simmons is so descriptive I swore I was watching a movie and not reading a book. I could virtually see everything happening in my mind as I read it. This is descriptive writing genius! I actually found myself imagining what the zombies would smell like and what they smelled and sensed when they detected a live human. I cannot wait until book 2 when I get to read even more about the Vampires!

The Virus in the book is so aggressive that it is spreading like a literal wild fire and the panic of the humans trying to leave the city and clogging the roadways just creates a zombie smorgasbord all laid out nice and tasty. Imagine living through the first days of the show the walking dead and then make the zombies stronger than a normal human and really, really fast.

I was so drawn into this book that I blew through it in a matter of hours. *Sigh* now I have to wait for the next book to come out, this is going to be a long hard wait.

Excerpt:

I’m breathing heavier than I’ve ever breathed before in my life. Tears are running down my face and I had no idea I was even crying. I have to get away from here. I look over at TJ. He’s faceless. He’s staring at me as though he’s staring at that wall behind me. He’s not saying a word, he’s simply just a shell.

I turn around to walk away when I feel him grab my arm and turn me around and he picks me up

“What the fuck TJ?” my voice; barely there is rough and cracked. He doesn’t say a word just carries me toward his room. He opens the door carries me through it and shuts it with his foot. Not saying a word he sets me down.

“What are we doing TJ?” he just stares at me again. I feel him unbutton my pants, I hear them unzip as he pulls them apart.

“TJ, you can’t do this….I’m not begging.”

Still, nothing comes from his mouth. I feel him grab my pants; he slowly pulls them down to my ankles. He taps the top of my foot. I pull my foot out of my pant leg. He does the same on the other side, I cooperate. He stands back up and gently removes the chain from my neck. He just as gently removes my shirt. I’m standing there in my panties and bra. He goes over to the wall and hits the light switch.

As he’s walking I begin to beg “Please TJ….no, please don’t turn on the-“

That’s as much as I got out of my mouth as I look down at my body. I see TJ slowly walk up beside me leisurely running his fingertips as gently as he can over the purple, pink and green marks that cover my whole abdominal area. He circles around me studying my body, using very little pressure as he touches my skin.

I close my eyes, I can’t even imagine at this point in time what he’s thinking

“TJ-“

“Shhhhh” that’s as much as I have gotten out of him in the last twenty minutes.

He circles around me one more time when he stops behind me. He unhooks my bra and come around the front of me. I have my arms folded across my bra. He gently pulls my arms down and I comply. He then goes back to my shoulders and pulls my straps down until it’s hanging from his one finger. I go to put my hands back up to hide my breasts.

“Don’t you even fucking think about it” he’s talking again in that low, terrifying voice

I drop my arms back down to my sides and turn my head to look away from him. He gently kneels back in front of me and slowly pulls my panties down my legs. I hesitate and begin to say his name but he beats me to the punch.

“Don’t say a fucking word”

He pulls them down to my ankles and again, I step out of them when he taps on my feet.

There I stand nude, bruised and extremely humiliated in front of the one man I never wanted to be naked in front of again.

Still kneeling in front of me he begins to slowly run his hands up my calves, then my thighs, he’s moving so slowly I’m wondering what he’s trying to figure out, how long the bruises have been there? Maybe he’s wondering when the last time I got my ass kicked was.

He reaches my stomach and rubs his fingers over my C-section scar from the twins, I squeeze my eyes shut. This is fucking killing me. He touches my ribs again, he makes his way up to my breasts, he just runs his fingertips over my nipples, they become hard and erect from just that little touch from his hands

He brings his hands down to around my waist and gently places his hands on my hips and pulls himself closer to me. He places tiny kisses on the bruising that covers my stomach. He moves over to my hips and ribs and places kisses on that area as well, he pushes himself back and moves to the other side and repeats. He eventually works his way back to the middle and kisses my stomach as though he’s kissing my uterus for the babies that I had been made to get rid of.

He doesn’t look at me but by the tone in his voice I know he is dead serious.

He whispers to my stomach, “I’m gonna kill him Elle” he stands up and doesn’t say another word. He walks nonchalantly into the bathroom. He closes the door behind him. I just stand there for a moment wondering are we done. Should I get dressed again? That’s when I hear all hell break lose. TJ is screaming, not saying nothing but just screaming at the top of his lungs. Glass is breaking, things are being thrown, and punches are landing against the wall. Toiletry items being pushed off the sink, landing and breaking all over the tile floor I hurry up and pull on my panties, shirt and shoes, I grab his shoes that I see by the bedroom door and I fly to the bathroom. I can’t see from the mascara tears that have blinded me. I throw the door open and see him standing in the middle of this enormous jumble of chaos that my words had created, I couldn’t keep my anger under wraps and I let everything except the most important secret out.

I look at TJ, he looks back at me; he’s huffing and puffing from the exertion, his eyes are bloodshot, his face is beet red. “Oh Jesus, TJ this is all my fault” I say through my tears. I walk over to him and ask him as pleasantly as possible “TJ….honey pick up your foot Sweetie, so that I can slip on your shoe, I don’t want you to cut yourself.” He obeys and I repeat the process of putting on his other shoe to get him out of this mess. We walk back through the bedroom and I grab some more jeans and a shirt for him. My clothes are fine, I grab them and head for the bedroom door. I open it and then shut it behind us and head for my suite so that I can get him showered and dressed, I did this; I needed to clean it up. We went into my room and I walked him into the bathroom. I went to the shower and turned on the water so that it could warm up.

I began to do what he did to me. I took off his shirt gently and when it stuck to his head I winced and apologized. I undid his pants and pulled them down leaving his boxers on. I removed his shoes before I pulled his jeans down his legs and then off his feet. Sitting on the side of the tub in his boxers I didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable so I thought I’d leave it up to him

“Would you like me to leave while you get in the shower?”

“I’m sorry Elle”

I stopped what I was doing and just stood there

“I’m so sorry baby” he said as he bent down and grabbed my cheeks in his hands and pulled me up to him.

“Shhhh, TJ…..Sweetie, none of this is your fault”

He was restraining himself, I could tell. His voice was shaky, his hands were wobbly and they didn’t know where to touch me. He was controlling himself by limiting his contact with me. He knew he was on the edge, as did I.

He still had my head in his hands as he pulled me up to his face, he touched his lips to mine still repeating over and over again. “I’m so sorry baby” as I was repeating “It’s ok, everything is fine”.

He sealed his lips over mine and began to swipe his tongue all through my mouth as though he was wiping away all the bad Bear had done to my mouth and I allowed him too. His kiss became harder as he started to lose control.  My hands flew up into his hair where I wrapped my fingers in to secure him in place I pushed him deeper into me. He broke the kiss and began to kiss down my neck with the lightest of kisses. “TJ babe, I’m not glass. As he continued kissing me he replied “Yes you are you should never have to hurt like this.” He began walking me backward as we passed by the shower he reached in and turned it off. I didn’t stop him. We continued walking straight back into my room. Our kisses so desperate for each other, we couldn’t get close enough. There was no turning back now. I couldn’t; I had to feel him within me. I needed to feel him. He curled his fingers around the bottom of my shirt, I lifted my arms to answer his unspoken question. I wanted him just as bad as he wanted me. We broke our kiss long enough to get my shirt over my head. My hands went down to the top of his boxers and began to push them down. His lips sucking my tongue deeper into his mouth, gently, he was nibbling against it. I unlocked my lips from his and was joined to him by my tongue and his lips. I smiled, this was my happiness. I felt his fingers dive into the corners of my panties when he let go of my tongue. “Say the words Elle, I have to hear them from you, I have to know that you want this just as bad as I do. This can’t be all just me” I looked him in the eyes for what seemed like minutes but was in fact seconds. I put my nose to his and opened my eyes to look in his and said it “Please TJ, I need you baby” he pulled my panties down and laid me gently on the bed. He continued kissing me as he reached down and pulled his boxers off. I grabbed around his neck and wrapped my legs around his waist and allowed him to drag me up on the bed where he had better access. “TJ honey, please, I’m begging you here.” He began slowly nibbling my skin at my throat and worked his way down. He licked my right nipple and I bowed up into him. He brought it between his teeth and bit gently; teasingly. He worked his way over to the other side and worked that breast as well. He sucked and licked and bit, I closed my eyes and relished the emotions pouring out of him.

“I’ve missed this baby. You’re still so beautiful. You will never fully comprehend what you do to me. ” As he’s talking he kissing, slowly working his way down. I’m just listening to his words until I feel him blow gently against my clit. I retract up the bed and pull my knees up to my chest and yell “No….anything but that, you can’t do that, no putting your mouth on it”

He sits back on his knees and looks up to the ceiling but his eyes are closed

“Elle baby, I’ve done it before on you, please I have to taste you.”

I continually shake my head. “No, anything but that you can’t put your mouth on it.”

Frustrated, he asks “why, why can’t I put my mouth on it?”

I put my head down on my knees and tell him “He says it taste disgusting, he tells me it’s not clean”

All at once, in once swift move he grabs my legs and pulls them down to him so that I’m now laying on my back. My legs are out to each of his sides and he’s got his face buried in between my legs. His tongue is flat and he is lapping up every drop of wetness I produce. “I’m gonna make you come with my mouth and I’m going to drink you up, you understand me Elleny? This is beauty. This pussy right here.” Lick. “This is my heaven”. Lick. “This is my sanctuary.” Lick.  “My refuge.” Lick. “That mother fucker doesn’t even deserve to lay next to this treasure.” Lick, lick. “He will never in his entire fucking piece of shit life be worthy enough to put his fingers against this pussy.” He opens me up wider to get to my clit, he tickles it with the tip of his tongue. “Do you feel that baby? Do you feel how good that feels….my tongue licking up every bit of you? That’s how you make me feel. My mouth is against the most perfect jewel that will ever be found….and it’s all mine. The wealthiest of wealthiest men will never find a gem as perfect as yours. It’s so beautiful; pink and bulging, just for me Elle….every bit of it mine.”  He continues flicking his tongue against me. I am crying.  I’m not sure if it’s because of happiness, sadness, or because I’m getting ready to come or maybe a little of it all mixed together.

I unwrap my fingers from the sheets and run them through his hair. I push his head against me; I’m on the verge of coming so I begin to lift my hips up and down quickly against his tongue. “That’s it Elle, work that beautiful pussy against my tongue, and come all over my face. You look so gorgeous when you ride my tongue. Just as I am about to come he sticks two fingers slowly into me and that’s what it takes to push me over. I scream at the top of my lungs. It has been so long since I’ve climaxed like this, it’s overwhelming to me. He continues to lap up all my wetness, moaning that sexy moan as he does it. “Give it all to me babe, I want it all. Everything he’s taken from you. I’m giving it back.”

I pull him up to me and insert his rock hard shaft in me as he begins to push slowly into me. “Oh fuck Elle, I’m trying to take it slow, tell me if I hurt you”

I nibble on his ear as I whisper “Do it TJ, I need to feel you move inside of me”

He slowly enters me completely and doesn’t move. He pushes his arms up so he’s hovering over me “Do you feel that Elle, do you feel my cock deep within you? This is how deep you are within me. You are so deep within me Elle, I can’t find a way to get you out.” He begins to pull out; I bow towards him and close my eyes. “I want your eyes Elle” I wrap my arms around his neck and bring my mouth up to his. I lock eyes with him as my lips barely touch his; I ask the same questions he asked me that night, seventeen years ago; “Tell me you need me TJ” he kisses me as he begins to speed up his thrusting “Elleny, I need you so much baby. I can’t function without you. For seventeen years I’ve been sleeping then you were brought back to me and now I’m finally awake” He’s now thrusting in and out of me faster, his breathing is speeding up. “Tell me what you want TJ, describe it” “I want you beside me for the rest of my life, when I wake up, when I go to sleep. I want you to give me babies and I want to be able to share with you this love that is overflowing inside me.” I begin to tense, I feel my orgasm building. I know he feels it too because he begins to moan and starts telling me “Fuck baby you’re squeezing me so fucking tight, I’m gonna come.” He thrusts twice, three more times filling me up with every drop of him. He eventually stops moving and just stays inside of me. “Can I tell you something and please…don’t get mad or upset” TJ pushes himself back up again and he rolls his eyes at me “Yes, but hurry before I change my mind” I take a breath “When Bear was pushing himself in my mouth he kept asking me if I liked the taste of what real love was but it was the most disgusting taste I’ve ever tasted in my life. Love shouldn’t be disgusting and nasty….should it?” Looking me in the face I could see he didn’t set himself up for a question like that, he gently pulled himself out of me and bent back down so that his face was between my legs again. He began licking and tongue-fucking me, moaning again so sexy and erotic. It was beautiful. Then he came back over me and looked me in the eyes “Give me your mouth babe” I gave him my mouth. He stuck his tongue in. I could taste a part of him mixed with what must be a part of me and it wasn’t bad. It was sweet yet salty and had just a hint of bitterness. I swirled my tongue in his mouth to taste more of our combination. He broke the kiss “Do you taste that Elleny? That’s what real love tastes like. Pure, uncorrupted, virtuous, UNTAINTED. That’s what straight- from-your-fucking-soul-love tastes like. You got me?”

He wiped the tear from my face and licked it off his thumb as he whispered “Let me put you back together. Babe, you’re not broken your just damaged. Remember… bendable….not breakable” he says as he kisses my nose. I turn my head from him and say quietly “TJ, there’s so much that you don’t know. Things that are shattering.” “Then when the time is right we’ll get through it…..Let me heal you Elle” I closed my eyes and lay my head against his and think the words….out loud “OK”

Excerpt:

Outside.

Winter’s Heat

by Cristin Harber

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MEDIA KIT CristinHarber_WintersHeat_2500px (2)BLURB:
After putting her life on the line to protect classified intelligence, military psychologist Mia Kensington is on a cross-country road trip from hell with an intrusive save-the-day hero. Uninterested in his white knight act, she’d rather take her chances without the ruggedly handsome, cold-blooded operative who boasts an alpha complex and too many guns.
Colby Winters, an elite member of The Titan Group, has a single objective on his black ops mission: recover a document important to national security. It was supposed to be an easy in-and-out operation. But now, by any means necessary becomes a survival mantra when he faces off with a stunning woman he can’t leave behind.
When Titan’s safe houses are compromised, Colby stashes Mia at his home, exposing his secret—he’s the adoptive father of an orphaned baby girl. Too soon, danger arrives and Mia lands in the hands of a sadistic cartel king with a taste for torture. As hours bleed into fear-drenched days, Colby races across the globe and through a firestorm of bullets to save the woman he can’t live without.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

Setup- Colby Winters and Mia Kensington are waiting for her attackers to make another move. They’re trying to appear distracted outside a motel room, as if they let their guard down.

What was it like? Oh, man. He had a thing for her in a bad way. Winters bent his head toward her. Their foreheads kissed, and there was no question. While she was with him, she was his. His to protect. His to savor. A woman like Mia was rare. At least he had brains enough to notice.

He never should’ve put her in this position. He could’ve packed her off in a plane, back toward the East Coast. Someone from Titan could’ve kept her safe while he finished his original job. But selfishness and curiosity made it so he wouldn’t push her away. He couldn’t, because an irrepressible desire consumed him, powering lust through his veins.

“Colby.” Her hushed whisper tickled his skin. “What are we going to do?”

His pulse thumped in his neck, and he tightened the forearm wrapped around her waist, melding her onto him.

I’m on the job. Serious danger ahead.

He’d missed it before and couldn’t let that happen again. No time for arousal. No time for fantasies.

Images flooded his brain, searing his senses. He remembered the taste of her tongue. Red-hot cinnamon. A sweet, delicious burn of aphrodisia.

What were they going to do? Where to begin… A million ideas popped to mind, starting with making good use of the wall behind him.

No woman had pressed against him like this, so pliable, supple, and luscious. They had always draped him like sex kittens on steroids. Those other women were as over-sexed and one-dimensional as they were obvious, all self-fulfilling prophecies, and they were the definitive opposite of Mia Kensington.

Before Mia’s hands explored him, before her beautiful body had even disrobed, she toyed with his mind like it was the first of many playgrounds. And he wanted to play so bad.

“I’ve started a list.” His lips flitted over hers. “Want me to share?”

Her eyelashes fluttered. “What kind of list?”

“I have you thirty feet from a bed. What kind of list do you—” A drunken couple stumbled out of the bar. Actually, more likely a john and a pro. He should have seen them before he heard them. “More on the list later, doll.”

Men were coming to hurt her, and his hard-on could pick another time for games.

“Okay, Mia, here’s what we’re going to do. When they pull up, act like we let loose. We had too many drinks.” He motioned to the karaoke bar with a tip of his head, then dipped his lips to her neck, lingering under her ear. “I’m convincing you to come to my room. You’re not putting up too much of a fight. Just enough to keep it fun.”

He nipped her earlobe, and she took a tiny gasp. It made his gut jump. Her taste drugged him, intoxicated him. Temptation was a cruel mistress. Giving him a little and making him wait.

“That’s your plan?”

“Not my whole plan, no. But that’s the part you have to play.” He traced the slide of her neck. “Think you can act mildly interested?”

“You’re crazy.” Her voice was husky. “Men are trying to kill us. How can you think about sex?”

“You’re not?”

“I’m… I’m—”

“You’re what? I’m getting into character. You should give it a try.”

“You’re rubbing your hard-on against me, is what you’re doing.”

“All part of my cover. Believable, huh?” Her innocent act was toast. She was far more like Jessica Rabbit than Snow White. “If I tried to drag you off to bed right this second, you wouldn’t join me?”

There was only one answer. He knew it. Felt it as sure as he felt her body mold against him. She couldn’t fight their hunger either.

Her breaths escalated. The quick rise and fall of her breasts fueled him. Winters cupped her chin in his hands, palms caressing her cheeks. Sweet Mia. If he could freeze this moment, it’d be one he’d put on repeat.

“I would,” she whispered. “But…”

“Forget everything else. It’s just you and me.” He thumbed her lips, dragging the bottom one down.

Slowly, his hands drifted into her hair. Lust hung heavy in the cool night air. Her dark lashes fluttered, and her hard nipples pressed against his chest.

How beautiful would she be naked? How would she feel? Impossibly smooth. He would whisk across her sensitive spots, watching those succulent breasts rise and fall in anticipation. He would make sure she ached for him. As much as he ached now.

His fingers tangled into her hair, and Mia leaned her head back, heavy lidded and heady breaths.

“Shouldn’t you watch for the bad guys instead of torturing me?” Her eyes were sealed shut, defenseless.

His lips grazed her neck, and she purred, the sinful sound acting as a deft stroke to his already engorged shaft.

“You don’t think I can multi-task?” He kissed behind her ear, dancing his mouth down her neck. It was a tease. A simple promise of what was to come. When he had a moment to concentrate on her, he’d do whatever it took—lick, kiss, caress, and suck—to make her cry out for him.

His fingers slid to her nape, trailing to the front of her shirt. The fabric felt fragile under his palms. He was losing a battle to a ripped shirt on a pretty girl, but revenge would be amazing.

“How can you do this,” she nudged her head down to where he nuzzled his erection, “and pay attention to anything else?”

“Can you imagine what it’s going to be like between us when I don’t have to worry about anyone but you?”

Synopsis

Even as a faithful Christian, there may be times when you feel that there is no hope of escaping issues and themes in your life that ensnare and trip you up time and time again. When a certain pattern of behavior or type of suffering has been following you all your life, it’s hard to believe that you can ever escape from it. Christians with Pervasive Issues shows us that every child of God can be delivered from issues that cause them to be a victim, rather than walking in victory. In compassionate, no-nonsense language, Annie Brown demonstrates that with genuine repentance, using God’s principles, and the right counseling/support, you can overcome anything. Christians with Pervasive Issues gives you the ray of hope you need in order to heal your life, and get closer to God.

About The Author

photoAnnie Brown is the mother of four adult children, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She is a licensed minister and social worker. As a social worker, Annie works the terminally ill, providing emotional support at the most critical time in an individual’s life. It is Annie’s desire that Christians work through their pervasive issues before the end of life, so that the transition between death and eternity can be smooth, and not cluttered with unresolved conflicts.

Book Excerpt

A Remedy to Get to the Root of the Problem

WHAT IS NEEDED is that the people of God “must” clean out their secret compartments and confess that they need the Lord to deliver them. Confession is made unto salvation (deliverance). If we confess our faults, the Lord is faithful in forgiving us. You may ask, “Why do I have to confess if I was not responsible for what happened to me?”

The issue then becomes whether you have forgiven the person that caused me this harm. If there is no forgiveness, then you become a victim twice: a victim of circumstance, and a victim of bondage. This can be in some ways more dangerous than cancer. This will always be eating away at you. With cancer, at least you know what is going on in your body. Being a victim of circumstance and having an unforgiving heart bring torment. This torment becomes a part of you in such a way that it eats through your mind, destroys your inner peace, and puts your soul in jeopardy because it becomes a heart matter of sin.

Synopsis

If the decisions you make don’t define you, what price would you pay to change them?

“Close your eyes. This is the darkness I see, I feel, I live because of my choices.

I spent my life running. Running from my past. A past that changed my life, robbed me of my childhood, and bound me for a life of silence. Silence protected me from further hurt. When I couldn’t control my life, I found reprieve in my silence. Dark, cold silence. I’m trapped, trying to find my way out, trying to make a stand, trying to finally live; but is it too late?”

Lacey Edwards fought emotional turmoil most of her life. She made choices that unknowingly put her through more painstaking heartache. She found bits and pieces of happiness in all the wrong areas except for one. This one gave her hope for a fresh new life full of promises. Could she hold onto it, or would it slip through her fingertips?

***Warning*** Mature content. Not appropriate for audiences 17 years and under. This novel contains explicit language, sexual situations, abuse and social issues that some might find offensive.

Meet the Author

Author L.U. Ann moved to Colorado from the Eastern Shore of Maryland with her husband and two children. Life in Colorado is so much different. In Maryland, you would find her in the garden tending to her vegetables and flowers, sea glass and shark tooth hunting once a week, and enjoying the kids swimming in the backyard. Her life took a drastic change when her family moved to their own “Little House on the Prairie” at an elevation of over 6,000 feet above sea level, and a semi-arid climate that makes it hard to grow anything. While barely anything can grow where she resides now, the wildlife makes up for it. Mountain Lions, and coyotes, and rattlesnakes, oh my!

She tries to spend a little time each day writing, but domestic chores around the house usually take precedence. She would much rather hide them from her husband. She tends to her loving four-legged children who at times become much too demanding when she locks herself in the office. This often results in MORE domestic work, and she finds herself cleaning up after their deviant behavior.

At night, you’ll find her begging the kids to go to bed so that she can catch up on the latest book before her sister can. Yes, she is an avid reader who escapes her chaotic but wonderful home to the feisty depths of romance land in search of her newest book boyfriend. Shh, don’t tell her husband.

She is an artist by the grace of God. She worked as a set designer for six years, helping establish a local children’s theatre where she was the scenery artist, set, and prop designer. Before that, you would find her covered in paint, so engrossed in painting a mural that time didn’t exist. Graphic design is her guilty pleasure.

Destructive Choices is the second book in The Destructive Series. Each book will hit its reader with lots of angst hoping for a happily ever after.
